Kokanee released into Beaver Lake
Staff from the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery released some 2,500 kokanee into Beaver Lake at the end of January. The salmon (a land-locked form of sockeye), came from Whatcom County; they were reared at the Issaquah Hatchery as part of a study to see how the species do in the local water. Beaver Lake has year-round fishing; anglers will be able to catch the fish once they reach a decent size. Other fish releases planned. The Issaquah Hatchery will release more than 20,000 rainbow trout into Beaver Lake in March and about 10,000 rainbows into Pine Lake in April. Both lakes are in the City of Sammamish, which generously provided a grant to pay for the trout feed.
