LEAD LIKE JESUS: DAY 249 | September 10, 2012
When times are tough, leaders can be tempted to turn from Jesus' example of servant leadership. Yet Jesus did not call us to be servant leaders only when it feels good. He Himself washed the feet of His disciples, including Judas, on the night when He was betrayed. Where do you, like Jesus, need to draw strength from Your relationship with the Father, strength to continue serving to the end?
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name's sake.--Psalm 23:1-3
Prayer Prayer: Lord, I look to You today for spiritual strength so that I can be faithful in what You've called me to do. I know my leadership needs to be more than words. Give me Jesus' courage and commitment to follow You faithfully to the end. Refresh and guide me, I pray in Jesus' name, Amen

Sign-up for our Prayer Banner!!
Palanca is fervent, sacrificial prayer. We need Prayer Palanca for both the Men's and Women's Weekends. It is important to pray for the Participants, Team and the events of each Weekend.
The Prayer Banner is shown to the Participants on Friday afternoon during the Grace In Action Rollo. Seeing all the names that are praying for them during all the Weekend, is very powerful to them. It helps them to see that a whole Community of people are helping and caring about them.
How we handle our prayer charts have changed and is easier than before. We are now using www.3dayol.org for our prayer charts. Please follow the links below.

SEASONED TEAM MEMBERS NEEDED
|
Journey in Faith Looking for Seasoned Team
More than five years ago, a new Via de Cristo community was formed in Pennsylvania. A small hand full of dedicated folks joined together to start up Journey in Faith Via de Cristo. JIF has held a number of weekends since then at Camp Conquest in the beautiful hills north of Reading. Good News has helped support the new movement financially and by sending seasoned team members to supplement the very small number of people available to serve on team.
This fall, JIF will be holding a coed weekend November 8 thru 11 at a new location in a retreat center closer to Reading. While the sunsets might not be as breath-taking as those seen from the hills of Camp Conquest, there won't be the long, difficult stairs to climb. Meals will be provided by the retreat center, so there won't be a need for cooks on team.
Alisha Barnett, the rectora for the weekend, is hoping that we might send 4 to 8 folks, both men and women, to serve as table chas (rollo room chas)palanca, chapel chas and utility chas. There is also a possibility that we might be asked to serve as table leaders (silent professors).
Please pray about whether you might be able to bless a new Via de Cristo community by sharing your serving experience on the Journey in Faith fall coed team. Attendance at team meetings is not necessary to serve! Being flexible, open to new ideas and the ability to adapt will be a must!
Please contact our Lay Director, Phil Meuser for more details.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR TASK FORCE
|
Lay Director's Message
Thanks to all for the thoughts, prayers, visits and well wishes during the past few weeks as I continued to deal with Kidney Stones and blood thinners. I am happy to report that all seems to be back to normal - sometimes a relative term.
Last month I was blessed to attend the National Lutheran Secretariat Annual Meeting. Judi and Cathy reported on the topics that were discussed. It was a wonderful opportunity to spend time with other Brothers and Sisters in our movement and to thank God for the Community that we have at Good News! and to know that we do well at sticking to the essentials.
One of the highlights was that Good News! and other secretariats in Region 5 were asked to step up as future hosts for the NLSM. The years in question are 2016 or 2014.
When I look at the talent we have from a musical perspective and the skills we have from a Welcoming and organizational perspective, my reaction is Yes!, and what an opportunity to serve Him and this movement that would be.
There are several questions that come to people's minds and we are in the process of trying to form a Task Force that would evaluate the feasibility and then the implementation of being host for the meeting in one of the two years.
If you would like to be a member of this Task Force, please let me or anyone from Secretariat know as soon as possible. We have received a manual that is a guide and answers many questions that we will have. The Task Force will make a recommendation to Secretariat and will take action appropriately.
Hope everyone has had a safe summer and is gearing up for school, fall activities and Weekend #51.
God Loves you and so do I!

NATIONAL LAY DELEGATE REPORT
|
From our National Lay Delegates
The National Lutheran Secretariat Annual Meeting (NLSAM) was a spirit filled weekend of prayer, worship, and fellowship. At the opening worship service Pastor Joe Nilsen told us we will not taste the full bounty of God's grace until we do the fourth day as well as we do the weekend. We should say to the pilgrims, welcome to the table. May this be the beginning of a rich journey. IT IS NOT ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE, IT IS ABOUT THE JOURNEY. On Saturday, Pastor Paul Schmidlin told us; it is far too easy to lose sight of the real purpose of an organization, when focusing on individual topics. In isolation it can be hard to get a detailed grip on the big picture. We need to keep the main thing the main thing. The challenge in the future for VDC is to focus on the basics and the 4th day. Sponsoring a participant is a lifetime commitment.
Items we bring to the leaders are:- Power point for rollos. This would be a standard version, chosen by leaders to be used by all rollistas.
- No snacks at team meeting to help have more rest for all team members.
- At the decuria each table would come up and present all the posters at one time.
- At the NLSAM we sang the Holy Spirit prayer at worship. This was awesome. We also discussed the possibility of the 2014 or 2016 NLSAM meeting to be held in Michigan or Ohio.
In closing we would like to say thank you for this experience and once again say It is not about the experience it is about the journey.
God Loves You and So Do I, Judi Lado and Cathy Owens

Reunion Group
|
These are the primary disciplines of the reunion method:
Reunion groups meet weekly at a mutually convenient time and location. This meeting is a primary commitment for its members. The format of the green service card is used including the Holy Spirit Prayer, group sharing, and touches on piety, close moments to Christ, study and plans for action to bring others closer to Christ. Members pray daily for one another.
It isn't necessary for someone to make a three-day weekend in order to participate in a group reunion. Anyone who is willing to use the ideals of friendship and accountability as means to being better witnesses for Christ should be welcome. A group reunion may go on for years or may need to change after a shorter period of time. Like life, situations change and change is part of God's world. Group reunion is an essential and valuable part of the Via de Cristo method. Those who have invested themselves in this method will tell you of its rewards in increasing faith, hope, love and courage.
Ask your sponsor about joining a reunion group. If this effort is unsuccessful, ask your parish rep, your rector or contact a member of the Good News Secretariat. Every effort will be made to find a viable group in your area.Reunion Group List - click here
