I've worked with him for 21 years so I'm giving fair warning: Jim Summa is a huge cycling enthusiast and July is Tour de France month, so bring up the subject at your own risk. I don't get the hype, quite frankly. It's just a bunch of young guys in spandex peddling their little bikes around France...well, let me rethink that.
A little-known fact, however, is that his fanatical interest in cycling began several years ago while actually competing in the race. Jim's wife, Ellen (my baby sister), took this photograph near the finish line on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. Jim's on the bike on the left, riding for Team Budweiser*, as he finishes the final stage 61st, 62nd or 63rd, just ahead of six Slovenian tourists, an ice wagon & some of the older women in the field.
No yellow jersey but well done, Jim!

*Renegade Team Budweiser riders were the only cyclists ever to try beer as a doping agent. Though refreshing, it did not work. The team ran over a sidewalk croissant vendor on day one, rear-ended a Citroën full of nuns east of Dijon a week later, then rode headlong into the facade of Cathédrale Saint-André during Stage 18 after making a wrong turn in downtown Bordeaux.
The cathedral had remained undamaged since its post-Crusades restoration in 1382. The Citroën's driver, 81 year-old Sister Simone Marie, suffered whiplash and wears a neck brace over her wimple to this day. The vendor, Claude of Claude's Croissants Fantastique, hired the firm Brown & Crouppen and sued. Jim is appealing the verdict. |

When Shorecrest High in Shoreline, Washington challenged its crosstown rival to outdo its impressive 'lip dubbed' video of the Outkast hit "Hey Ya," Shorewood responded with something crazy.
Shorewood took up the challenge by filming their lip dub -- a rendition of Hall & Oats' "You Make My Dreams Come True" -- in reverse and learning to lip sync the words backwards! Click to watch.
