In the closest contest we've ever had, and, well, the only contest we've ever had, Laurie Hindenberger from Kirkwood emailed us at 7:10:08 P.M. EDT to tell us that April Fool's Day is on the 1st, not the 2nd, winning a beautiful Schlanser Bud Vase. Forty-one people sent us the correct answer and Laurie won by a mere 18 seconds. Way to go, Laurie! Boy, that was fun, eh?
Lame contest excuse: Paul Slegers, a friend from Infinity Diamonds, had the correct answer to our contest but was way late responding, complaining that the newsletter was delivered at 2:00 AM Antwerp time. The early bird catches the worm, Paul.

~ Teacher Appreciation Week ~ | |
May 2nd through the 8th is Teacher Appreciation Week. My mother, Betty Summa, taught at Nipher for over 25 years, my wife, Ellen, teaches at Ladue and my niece and Susan's daughter, Karen, is teaching at Lindbergh so I know what a tremendously dedicated and hard working group teachers are. I'm sure doing something special for the teachers in our lives, even a short 'thank you' note or card, would be greatly appreciated.

 ...I'm a diehard Cardinal fan and our first series with Chicago is at Wrigley the weekend of the 28th. I don't like the Cubs, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like the Cubs, denigrate means "put down".*

In our April newsletter we showcased this Schlanser 'Equus' Bowl. This month's Kentucky Derby, the first event in thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown, reminded us of this bowl and the history behind it. President George W. Bush presented this magnificent bowl to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness Prince Philip on the occasion of the G8 Summit in London in 2005. We now have that same design in our showroom.
Schlanser Design Studio has been commissioned to do special projects for Coca-Cola, Disney, Rockwell and CB Commercial, among others. Recipients of Mr. Schlanser's work include Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife Maria Shriver, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis and, of course, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
