A Room Of My Own
project of the month

My house is for sale and so I'm thinking fondly about how I've loved living here for the past 14 years.  This month the featured project is my bedroom which used to be my office and before that my son's room.  The detail shot below shows custom Roman shades + beaded & shaped valance by
R Garner Custom Designs and painted musicians from Thailand.  See before and more after shots here.

Inspiration
 sundance necklace
This necklace from the Sundance catalogue inspired the colors for my room.  I love the combination of turquoise + peridot.  And how great is this delicious fabric from Designers Guild??

Reducing the need for air-conditioning

Even though I hardly ever run the central air unit on my 2nd floor, my house stays comfortably cool most of the time.  On those miserable humid sticky days I'll turn it on, but otherwise I use these strategies:
  • During really hot days, close windows, shades and blinds during the day
  • During moderately hot days, open windows a crack with shades down
  • Open windows at night to get that cross-ventilation going
  • Keep ceiling fans turned on low

That's it!  Easy!

My award winning kitchen and bath design has been featured in many national publications, showcasing my innovative design sensibility and exceptional and confident use of color.  I also offer whole house design services including paint color consultations and furnishings.
