Activist Investing in 2011 - Some Small Worries
Previously, we reviewed what transpired in 2010 for activist investors, and proclaimed it something of a success. The prospects for 2011 have a bit more uncertainty, in a number of ways:
  • Which pending activist situations, such as Pershing Square's investment at J.C. Penney, will work out well?
  • Which activist investors bear watching in 2011?
  • How will the proxy access litigation end?
  • Will the new say-on-pay votes matter?
  • Will the SEC do anything useful with the proxy plumbing concept release?
  • How should conscientious investors expect to vote in 2011?

We explain what investors can anticipate this year in activism in our blog post, with even a couple of predictions about what might happen - good, bad, and indifferent - in 2011.

You can find other useful resources at the TAI website, including our research on "Effective Activism, on the Cheap", the guide to proxy access and guide to exec comp, bibliography of academic research on the returns to activist investing, and our white paper with the basics on activism.
