Activist Investing in 2010 - A Pretty Good Year
A great deal of interest to activist investors happened this year, in all sort of areas:
  • legislative and regulatory (proxy access, say-on-pay, proxy plumbing)
  • success and failures at specific companies (Barnes & Noble, Fortune Brands) by specific investors (Pershing Square, Relational Investors)
  • heated debate over the power of proxy advisors
  • e-meetings that went badly
  • the wide range of shareholder proposals and governance reforms.

Our blog post explains the highlights and lowlights. Later, we'll preview what activist investors can expect next year.

You can find other useful resources at the TAI website, including our research on "Effective Activism, on the Cheap", the new guide to proxy access, bibliography of academic research on the returns to activist investing, and our white paper with the basics on activism.
