A great deal of interest to activist investors happened this year, in all sort of areas:
- legislative and regulatory (proxy access, say-on-pay, proxy plumbing)
- success and failures at specific companies (Barnes & Noble, Fortune Brands) by specific investors (Pershing Square, Relational Investors)
- heated debate over the power of proxy advisors
- e-meetings that went badly
- the wide range of shareholder proposals and governance reforms.
Our blog post explains the highlights and lowlights. Later, we'll preview what activist investors can expect next year.
