Who Am I Growing to Look Like?

One of my favorite pastimes right now is to sit around and look at our baby boy and talk about "who do you think he looks like?" Most of the time we conclude he looks like Tim - and occasionally a little like me. There is a striking resemblance in the eyes - he just looks like his father!
When it comes to our spiritual lives, it is worth asking, "Who am I growing to look like?" We are all in the process of transformation, the question is: what am I becoming? Physical resemblance is one thing - character resemblance another. When we begin to follow God in the way of Jesus, we are given new hearts and the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. God desires that we would grow to look like him. That we would grow in Christ-like character resemblance. Upon adoption into Gods family, we are given a new name (his), a new legal standing (we are his responsibility and heirs with Christ), and a new family (brothers and sisters) with a new parent (God as our true Father).
The apostle Paul said it like this, "So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It's your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it." - Colossians 3:12-14
I hope you'll join us this Sunday as we look at being God's adopted.
