Changes, Changes

For those who haven't been in our store recently, we've arranged the front a new way. We are carrying a small selection of natural and diabetic food items. We have new lines of vitamins added to our other selections. We now carry magnetic and copper bracelets. We now carry Cherry Concentrate as requested by our gout patients. If there is a special request or need you have, come by and see if we can help. We'd love to have your business.

Hormones, etc.

We have saliva testing available for men and women for hormone levels. We have estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid, DHEA, melatonin, and cortisol testing among others. We also have cholesterol testing kits and 5-Drug screen test kits.

Concerning women's hormones, be aware that a lot of medications and foods such as grapefruit will make birth control pills a lot less effective. Antibiotics are one such medication. Please contact your pharmacist or doctor if this is a concern of yours.

"About Those New Year's Resolutions"

The number one piece of advice I can give is ... if any of the below conditions are yours, please work closely with your doctor to keep these in check.

These are NOT treatments - they are just my opinions and observations.

When I have difficulty sleeping, I cut out the caffeine (tea, soda) at 4 PM, next day at 3PM, etc until sleep comes easier.

When I'm trying to lose weight, one thing I do is not eat "whites" after 3PM. Whites consist of sugar, pasta, potatoes, bread, rice, starches; also, nothing that contains them. In my opinion, it also helps my blood sugar levels.

When acid reflux is a problem, in my opinion, I find eating just salad without meat or cheese at night for supper seems to help. I only use oil and vinegar dressing.

KATHY'S KORNER

 Mam-Maw's Monkey Bread

1/2 c. butter (1 stick)
1 1/4 c. packed brown sugar
6 T. cinnamon
1/2 c. sugar
2 tubes refrigerated biscuits

Cut biscuits in quarters, set aside. Melt butter in saucepan. Take off heat and add brown sugar and 3 T. cinnamon. Set aside. Blend sugar and 3 T. cinnamon in bowl. Coat biscuits with cinnamon-sugar mixture. Spray loaf pans with Pam and coat with cinnamon-sugar mix. Arrange biscuits in 2 pans - about 2 deep. Crumble cinnamon-butter-sugar mix on top of loaves. Bake at 350F for 30-35 minutes. Let stand a few minutes. Serve warm.

My son-in-law likes to take leftovers and zap it in the microwave about 15 seconds.
