Christmas Shopping FYI

90 Days and counting - have you started your shopping yet? Now is the time to start. No crowds - weather still nice - make that list today and start watching the ads. My mother usually started her cookies for Thanksgiving the first week of November and froze them - just pulled them out of freezer and placed them in refrigerator to thaw a few days before needed.

Gardening To Do Now

I am currently planting my lettuce, spinach, and kale for winter. If lightly protected on extremely cold days, these plants will handle temperature drops down into low 20's. I also have potatoes planted which I will protect with hay on bad days. Most of the time the tops may be bitten by cold weather but potatoes keep on growing. Onion and garlic like this weather time as well as English Peas. Enjoy.

Book I Am Reading

"Breaking The Food Seduction" By Neal Barnard, M.D. The hidden reasons behind food cravings and 7 steps to end them naturally. I particularly liked the question - How much cheese do you eat a day - a week?

Law Change

According to State Board of Pharmacy, it is recommended that no medications be dumped down sink or toilet. It is recommended that medications be broken down in water then dispensed in kitty litter then into trash.

KATHY'S KORNER

Monkey Bread

3 cans biscuits - prefer buttermilk
1 c. white sugar
3 T. cinnamon
1 T. cinnamon to be used with butter
1/2 c. Butter
1 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 - 3/4 c. chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease one bundt pan with cooking spray - prefer butter flavor. Dust pan with sugar/cinnamon mix.

Mix white sugar and 3T cinnamon in large plastic bag. Cut biscuits into quarters. Toss 4-6 quarters in bag at a time - coating well. Arrange enough pieces in bottom of Bundt pan to make a single layer and sprinkle some chopped pecans over this first layer. Repeat with all biscuit pieces - layering them to fill over holes, remember to sprinkle each layer with nuts.

In small sauce, melt butter with brown sugar and 1T. cinnamon over medium heat. Boil for 1 minute. Pour over biscuits.

Bake at 350F for 35-40 minutes. Let bread cool in pan for 10 minutes. Then invert onto plate. Bread just pulls apart.

Great for holiday get togethers and makes your house smell wonderful too.
