New Ingredient in Your Food

According to the Center for Science in Public Interest, Washington DC and first Magazine 1-1-07 Edition., there is an interesting ingredient that currently is listed as "color added". Crushed Bugs. The FDA has asked that companies list the ingredients as "Cochineal extract". It can be found in a lot of things including juice, yogurt, and candy. Reactions to this ingredient can include bloating, cramping, and in some cases, anaphylactic shock.

Books Of Interest

I have 2 books this time.

"New" book is "The Grape Cure" by Johanna Brandt. I saw "new" because the book was originally published in 1928 and has been continually published since 1967. It is the story of one lady's fight with cancer and how she won her fight. Very interesting read.

The other book is "What Your Doctor Doesn't Know About Nutritional Medicine May Be Killing You" by Ray D. Strand, M.D. In his book, Dr. Strand goes through several patient cases where nutrition works hand-in-hand with traditional medicine to speed the healing include cancer treatments. He also has his recommendations for nutritional supplements per disease states. We have 3 copies we are giving away to the first 3 people coming in asking for their free copy. Limit 1 copy per person, per household, per address.

Health Wake Up

I personally got a wake-up call 2 days before Thanksgiving. My blood sugar fasting numbers were high. I don't like needles and diabetes runs in my family with most of my great aunts having no lower limbs due to complications.

I don't like diets and love to cook so I decided to take my 10 favorite meals and figure calories per dish. I decided I wanted to lose about 10 lbs per month and I wanted to get my blood sugar levels back down to normal in 1-2 weeks with it going down a little daily. Large changes always make me sick from my past experiences. I figured out how to eat my 10 favorite meals and meet my goal on weight. I chose to eat only fruit as my "sweet".

1 small pkg. sliced fresh mushrooms
6 slices low fat swiss cheese
1 box (small - approx 6 oz) Chicken flavored stuffing mix

Spoon soup over chicken.
Lay mushrooms on top of soup.
Lay cheese slices over mushrooms.
Top off by spreading stuffing on top. Pan should be full. Cover pan with aluminum foil. Set pan on cookie sheet to avoid spills in oven. Bake 350F for 2 hours.
