The price of feeding a family keeps going up, doesn't it? And the price of organic-grown (free of pesticides, etc) is even higher! Gary and I grew up on a farm and both sets of our parents had gardens. As a result, we have one in our backyard too. Our garden this year fed us our vegetables all summer. The garden for next year starts going in on January 15. We put in our onions, potatoes, and other in-ground items then so we start preparing in December. Our garden is an "above" ground garden. This year, we had the following items in our garden, standard-size yard for Grand Prairie, placed mostly in flower beds around the fence.


A lot of these are put up for this winter - either dried or frozen. If this is something you'd be interested in, we'd be happy to show what we've learned through time. And yes, I do have a life outside my garden. It doesn't have to take up all your time to be helpful to the old budget.
