Books I Am Reading

"Tomorrows Cancer Cures Today" by Allen Spreen, M.D. It details 25 therapies used from around the world, some with double blind studies done on them, showing they work.

"Roses Love Garlic" by Louise Riotte. It follows in the path of the book "Carrots Love Tomatoes" by the same author. Some plants do better being planted by certain plants and fail when planted by other plants. Learn to plant for success.

"The 99 cent Only Store Cookbook" by Christiane Jory. Cool recipes at cheap prices.

FYI

A lot of streets in our community are very wide with black tar connecting the concrete sections. These are not street markings. The only legal dividers of lanes are the painted on white and yellow lines provided by the city street employees. The black tar line does not make it two lanes.

If you want to test this theory, just pass a police officer on the right on one of those black tar lined streets. They will be happy to explain that to you as they write you a ticket. No, it did not happen to me.

Drive safely, obey our laws and we will all live better.

For more clarification on the above, ask your Public Safety officer or your attorney.

New Laws

As I go through life, I am amazed at the changes that take place. The dress code of our youth today would have literally put them in jail in my hometown during my youth. The total disregard for common courtesy for your fellow man. The people literally hanging out their windows (as they drive) yelling because they are having to go the speed limit. How dare you slow them down from speeding!

We went to the Texas Pharmaceutical Meeting in San Antonio and learned new laws that have either gone into effect or will be going into effect soon. They changed scheduling on one drug and it is now being reported every time it is filled in Texas. All schedule 3, 4, and 5 drugs are now being reported each time they are filled at any pharmacy in Texas. The accepted triad of health care handling patients' care is, the patient, doctor, and pharmacist. When we send this to the state, our computer talks to their computer. The information looks at: Is the patient taking the medication as doctor protocols dictate? Is doctor filling medication according to accepted protocol? And is pharmacy filling it in a timely manner? Also looked at, is this patient using multiple doctors and pharmacies to obtain same drugs or similar drugs? That is illegal!

The state offices are fining pharmacies and doctors who fail to follow protocols concerning medication. That is why this drug has been added to the schedule drugs reported. That is why it is "not cool" or legal to share medication with anyone "because they are in pain", etc.

If they are really that bad, take them to the doctor or be prepared to have to wait to get your medication refilled. If you give them a day's worth of your medication, you have just agreed to go a day without medication, plus you have just broken the law concerning sharing your medication.

As we go through life, day to day operations of the pharmacy change. So just because something was OK yesterday, does not guarantee that it is OK today.

If you have any questions concerning your medications, come by and talk to Gary.

Pasta Mixes

Choose a pasta you like and cook according to directions on package.

Choose a cooked meat you prefer - I like to have enough for 1/4 cup per person.

Select 2-3 vegetables you prefer - onions, bell peppers, garlic, asparagus, fresh spinach, tomatoes, yellow or zucchini squash, okra, new potatoes (diced).

In pan, cook enough pasta for number of people you intend to feed. Drain pasta.

In skillet, place small amount of oil and cook vegetables until tender. When vegetables are nearly done, add meat to heat thoroughly. When heated through, toss with pasta and sauce of your choice. I usually use spaghetti sauce, however alfredo sauce is a nice change, especially with cooked chicken or turkey.

Serve with salad and garlic toast.
