Greetings!
As I am writing this message we are commemorating the Allied invasion of Europe in World War 11. Known collectively as D-Day, 160,000 Allied troops landed in Normandy, France on June 6th,1944. 10,000 brave men died on this day. The success of this invasion was a death knell for the German army as Hitler was forced to fight a war on two fronts. Within a year Hitler committed suicide and victory in Europe was won.
Three years ago I had the opportunity to visit the Normandy American Cemetery and Museum. France has granted the United States a special perpetual concession to the land occupied by this cemetery and memorial. The U.S. flag flies over this precious soil and U.S. Military and service personnel guard the grounds. Among the burials at the cemetery are three recipients of the Medal of Honor, including Theodore Roosevelt Jr., son of President Theodore Roosevelt.
Given the opportunity, ALL Americans should visit this hallowed place and walk on these historic beaches. I promise you will feel intense gratitude, a humbled spirit and a pride in your American heritage that you will never forget!
The third Sunday of June is Fathers Day. My father fought in the Pacific theatre during WWII and went on to have a 30 year career in the United States Navy. Happy Fathers Day Dad and to all our fathers.

Happy Father's Day!
What a Card! Father's Day was near when I brought my three-year-old son, Tyler, to the card store. Inside, I showed him the cards for dads and told him to pick one. When I looked back, Tyler was picking up one card after another, opening them up and quickly shoving them back into slots, every which way. "Tyler, what are you doing?" I asked. "Haven't you found a nice card for Daddy yet?" "No," he replied. "I'm looking for one with money in it."
Penny Trick
After tucking their three-year-old child Sammy in for bed one night, his parents heard sobbing coming from his room. Rushing back in, they found him crying hysterically. He managed to tell them that he had swallowed a penny and he was sure he was going to die. No amount of talking was helping. His father, in an attempt to calm him down, palmed a penny from his pocket and pretended to pull it from Sammy's ear. Sammy was delighted. In a flash, he snatched it from his father's hand, swallowed it, and then cheerfully demanded, "Do it again, Dad!"

Have a Spice Day!
Recently, the news headlines have been peppered (tee-hee!) with emerging research about the possible health benefits of certain spices. Black pepper, for example, contains the component piperine. A recent study found that piperine can help block the formation of new fat cells. YES! And everyone's buzzing about garlic, since new findings indicate a compound in garlic is 100 times more effective than a couple of popular antibiotics when it comes to fighting a common food-borne illness. While eating more garlic won't necessarily prevent food poisoning, experts predict it could be used in treating meats and food-prep surfaces. WOWZERS. And for the hungry guys out there, a new study out of Long Island University has found a link between oregano consumption and the treatment of prostate cancer -- the carvacrol in oregano induced cell death in the cancer cells. Google Tells Chinese when they're being censored

The above image will appear when users try to search for restricted or sensitive words. "Starting today we'll notify users in mainland China when they enter a keyword that may cause connection issues," Alan Eustace, a Senior Vice President for Google, wrote on the company's Inside Search Blog on Thursday. The Country's keen-eyed censors are looking to block users for about 90 seconds after each sensitive search and their connection to Google could possibly get 'temporarily' terminated.

Study finds Men's Desk's Are Germier than Women's
You'd probably rather not think about it, but there are hundreds of species of bacteria on your desk, according to researchers who sampled offices in three U.S. cities. The study identified at least 500 species of bacteria in the offices, and found that men's offices tended to be germier than women's. Men had about 10 to 20 percent more bacteria in their offices, on average, compared with women. This may be because men, research finds, tend to be less hygienic. "Men are known to wash their hands and brush their teeth less frequently than women, and are commonly perceived to have more slovenly nature," the researchers wrote in the May 30 issue of the journal PLoS ONE.

Land of the Midnight Sun
Isn't it strange that the sun never fully sets during the month of June in Iceland? There is daylight even during the night as the sun is above the horizon for most of the nights in summer. It's a natural phenomenon occuring north of the Arctic Circle and south of the Artic Circle, and therefore is referred to as "the Land of the Midnight Sun".
Icelanders do not have surnames or a family name. Icelanders carry forward the names of their father and add "son" or "daughter" to it as their surnames. Thus: If Hinrik had a son named Pala, it would be Pala Hinrikson. If Hinrik had a daughter named Anna, it would be Anna Hinriksdottir. Owing to the fact that Icelanders do not have surnames, women in Iceland do not take their husband's name when they get married.

Water's Effectiveness on the body
Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body:
2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs
1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion
1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure
1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack
Ever wake up with a Charlie Horse? Water at bed time will help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie Horse. |
