Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it.

Greetings!
First of all, I would personally like to thank all of you that supported Bennett in the Race for Autism and those who helped to make his 21st birthday unforgettable. We celebrated Bennett's special day at Delaney with a few of his favorite things - Fire Trucks and Trains! A special thank you to Ralph Webb who fired up his antique steam engine and allowed Bennett to become an "engineer".

Also, thank you to our friends and neighbors at Forsyth County Fire Station 1. Firemen Josh Phillips and Brian Cornatzer made a surprise visit with their hook and ladder truck and Bennett and I took our very first ride in a fire truck - what a great day!
October brings many things: National Fire Prevention Month, Halloween, the World Series, Oktoberfest, and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While we're excited to pay tribute to the fun activities of fall, we dedicate this newsletter to all of those affected by breast cancer and everyone who volunteers their time to fight this horrible disease.
Enjoy the Fall!

A Race to the Finish Line
At just under 55 minutes, it was a sprint to the finish line for Bennett O'Bryan as he completed his first 5K at the Georgia Race for Autism this past Saturday. Bennett, who himself was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 4, celebrated his accomplishment with 21 of his fellow co-workers and friends who also participated in the 5K. After hearing other stories of children and adults affected by Autism, it is clear that our greatest contribution of all is employing an adult with a disability. And while the race marked the end of our Autism Campaign for September, it is just the beginning for our employees and friends who say that this will now be a yearly tradition for our company. A special Thank You to all of our customers, friends, and supporters who helped us raise $1200 for this special cause. To see photos from race day, visit us on facebook at www.facebook.com/DelaneyCo.

PINK HEALS Ten out of 12 months of the year, they are Crusaders for cancer. Firemen in pink fire trucks, decorated with over 40,000 signatures from women who have survived cancer, tour over 1,000 American cities. Their mission is to celebrate women by wearing pink, to fight cancer alongside women and help local nonprofits raise money and awareness. Part of the "Cares Enough to Wear Pink" Campaign that is supported by the International Association of Firefighters, the Pink Heals Tour relies solely on T-shirt sales and the generosity of strangers to help raise community cancer awareness everywhere. |

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
For more than 25 years, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month has been a time to reaffirm our commitment to fighting breast cancer and to remind ourselves of the importance of prevention and early detection. Breast cancer remains one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers among American women and despite remarkable advances in treatment and prevention, it remains the second leading cause of cancer death. Beginning in 2014, it will be illegal for insurance companies to discriminate against anyone with a pre-existing condition. In the past, insurance companies could deny coverage to women due to pre-existing conditions such as breast cancer, and if coverage was attained, insurance companies set lifetime and annual limits on what the companies would spend for benefits. We have done away with lifetime limits, offering women the peace of mind that their health insurance will be available when women need it most.

World's Largest Beer Festival
The Oktoberfest originated to honor the marriage between a Bavarian Prince and Princess and lasted nearly a week.Today, nearly six million people from around the world take part in the festivities and the consumption of beers is expected to set an all time record of 7 million liters. The most famous (and largest) beer tent is the Schottenhamel, traditionally where the Mayor of Munich taps the first keg on opening day. This tent holds room for up to 10,000 people. Since it is a "beer" festival, only beer and water are allowed to be served, and water is NOT free, you'll be paying for that by the liter as well. Over 100,000 sausages and gingerbread cookies will be consumed. There will be plenty of "bierleichen" - Bavarian slang for "drunk person"
(which literally translates to "beer corpse"). |
