AAA Credit Rating
The Stock Market fell sharply on Tuesday over economic recovery concerns that have been overshadowed by the Senate's passage of the debt ceiling increase. While the passage of the bill will help the country avoid catastrophic default, the chance remains that credit ratings companies may choose to downgrade America's coveted 'AAA' credit rating. Only 17 countries have this rating from Standard & Poor's and Moody's (first assigned to US in 1917). This 'AAA' rating allows nations to borrow funds at a low cost because their governments are considered stabile and their bonds safe. Norway's debt is ranked the safest followed by Sweden and Switzerland. While the Dow suffered on Tuesday there's a silver lining for gold investors as gold prices soared to yet another all-time high. The price of gold dipped briefly following the deal to raise the debt ceiling, but quickly bounced back amid concerns that the United States could lose its 'AAA' credit rating. |

The 27 Club In the wake of Amy Winehouse's death, many people have just become aware of the famed "27 Club." The list contains famous rock musicians that have passed at the age of 27. This group includes Rolling Stones' guitarist Brian Jones, rock god Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain. A book called "The 27s: The Greatest Myth of Rock & Roll" by Eric Segalstad illustrates the phenomena and contains the names of more than two dozen other musicians who died at the young age. So people are now asking: Is this a true superstition or pure coincidence coupled with indulgent lifestyles? |

Heavy Metal "Heavy metals" are chemical elements with a specific gravity that is at least 5 times the specific gravity of water. "Beneficial Heavy Metals," in small quantities are nutritionally essential for a healthy life. Some of these are referred to as the trace elements (e.g., iron, copper, manganese, and zinc) and are commonly found naturally in foodstuffs, fruits and vegetables. "Toxic Heavy Metals" become toxic when they are not metabolized by the body and accumulate in the soft tissues. They enter the body through food, water, air, or skin contact and include arsenic, lead, and mercury. |

Elvis Week Taking place August 10-16, this year marks the 55th anniversary of many Elvis firsts, including his first RCA single and national hit, 'Heartbreak Hotel', his first movie, 'Love Me Tender' and his first television appearances. In his long, illustrious career, Elvis Presley had over 110 top 40 hit singles, including 18 number one songs. He also starred in 31 motion pictures, notably Jailhouse Rock, Blue Hawaii and Viva Las Vegas. No other performer has come closer to this amazing record of success and critical acclaim. So is Elvis still the King of Rock 'n Roll? Thank you, thank you very much! |

Rock On! Trivia
Rocker Neil Young arrived at Woodstock in 1969 with fellow musician Jimi Hendrix. When they realized that they had to travel several miles from the helicopter pad to the stage, they stole a pickup truck for the journey. Young calls the theft, "One of the high points of my life."
According to producer Mickie Most, The Animals went into a recording studio at 8 A.M. to cut "House Of The Rising Sun" and 15 minutes later, the track was complete. With studio time costing the equivalent of $20 an hour, the song cost $5 to record, but would go on to top both the US and UK charts.
Did you know......Jimi Hendrix was a left hand guitar player but he used a right handed guitar. He strung the guitar upside down so that he could use his right handed guitar.
Mayhem is one of the most controversial bands in black metal. Its lead singer committed suicide; band members wear necklaces adorned with fragments of his skull.
Led Zeppelin are regularly cited as one of the progenitors of heavy metal and hard rock! Their escapades involved the destruction of a room in the Tokyo Hilton, leading the band to be banned from that establishment for life.
Aerosmith was known to bring a chainsaw with them on tour so they could chop up hotel rooms with greater efficiency. They also traveled with extra long extension cords. Their reasoning? So the TVs they tossed out their hotel room windows would stay on and keep playing all the way to the ground.

$100,000 razor will last you a decade
The Zafirro Iridium razor has sapphire blades and a handle made primarily from iridium, one of the rarest and strongest metals in existence and it'll last you for a decade. But is that enough to make you fork over $100,000? If it is, then you better hurry up and place an order- because only 99 of these razors are being made. The limited availability and cost is mainly due to the fact that iridium, the material used to craft the tool's handle (primarily used in the aerospace industry), is extremely rare - ten times more rare than platinum. The incredibly sharp and hypoallergenic solid white sapphire blades also contribute to the cost. The Zafirro Iridium went on sale June 20th and while they claim to have received hundreds of orders, as of today not a single one has changed hands (still sorting through to determine which orders are legitimate). Will you be the first to take one home? |

Rare-Earth Metal Prices Spike
Prices for rare-earth metals, which are used in everything from iPods to flat-screen TVs to missiles, are rising sharply as China builds up a stockpile and cuts quotas, so much so that some industries fear global supplies may be in serious jeopardy. Rare-earth metals are among some of the most sought-after materials in modern manufacturing, and demand for at least some of them is soon set to outstrip supply. Japan and the US, the world's biggest importers of rare earths, are concerned that China, which produces more than 95 per cent of the world's supply is trying to limit supplies. The cost of some of the 17 elements that make up the rare-earth metals has doubled in the last few weeks, with the price of others up by 400 or end with 500 per cent from the start of the year. |
