Back From Kenya, Headed there Again!
| |
If you haven't already heard, the Well Aware team returned from Kenya in February having completed a successful 400 foot well, pumping an amazing 60 gallons per minute, in the drought-devastated area of Oltinga.
If you were not keeping up with our blog while we were there, you may quite enjoy reading our daily accounts of the dig and our other adventures during our two week stay. You can read our first day here (when we struck that beautiful water), and the following days are posted, as well. We also posted several pictures (thank you Brio and Julia!) of each leg in our journey.
So what's next? Another well, that's what! We have already scheduled our next drilling project for the area of Namanga (South Kenya, close to the Tanzania border) for this August. We will soon be hosting an informational happy hour for anyone interested in being there for the birth of this well and some other Kenyan fun. If you would like to be informed of that event, or want to know more about the trip now, please email us at info@wellawareworld.org, and we will make sure you are on the Kenya Trip contact list!

Catch Some Eyes and Wear Your Tees!
This was a lame attempt at wordplay with the age-old advice, "Dot your "i's" and cross your "t's"." Not great, sorry.
Nonetheless, these new Well Aware T-shirts are a great way to support the cause and spread the word!
The front of our T's sport our logo, and the back reads, "Where there's a will, there's a well!"

Greetings!
Since returning from the construction of the water well in Oltinga that YOU helped us make happen, Well Aware has been industriously prepping for a future of more drilling and fundraising for the people of Kenya.
We wouldn't be Well Aware if we weren't cooking up some outrageous new projects and shenanigans, would we? So, as per your expectations, we have ready for you, and the rest of the world, the greatly anticipated AfriGnome Awareness Project that we are launching with a special event on May 1st! Read below to find out how you can be a part of this wild movement and for details on our Launch Party.
Also stay tuned for info on our 2010 National Shower Strike taking place this June!
We know that we would not be able to provide these thousands of people with water without your ongoing encouragement, support and attention to our cause. We and many, many more are deeply grateful.
Sincerely, Well Aware

The AfriGnomes Are Here!
www.afrignome.org
We are launching the AfriGnome Awareness Project and sending our army of gnomes around the globe to spread the message of
the dire need for clean water in areas of Africa that have none.
Moja, Jambo, Kwaheri, Pilipili, Maji and
Asante have very important things to say
about how Well Aware is constructing water wells in rural Kenya to alleviate
the suffering there and how others can help.
Each Afrignome will venture from Austin, Texas through the adoption
of generous and capable "Adoptive Parents" to anywhere on the globe, and the
AfriGnomes must remain in circulation until October 31st, 2010.
The AfriGnomes have their own website, so that
Adoptive Parents can post pictures and stories of their time with their Gnomes
for the world to see their progress and adventures! Here, we will also be keeping our audience
informed of all AfriGnome events and updates.
We cordially invite
you to be a part of our awareness
experiment and help us reach as many people as we can by adopting a gnome for ten days, becoming a sponsor, spreading the word, donating to the cause, or simply keeping up with
the project! We, and tens of thousands
of Africans in dire need, appreciate your attention and action!
Please join us for our AfriGnome Launch Party where we will celebrate the beginning of their global mission!
May 1st, 2010, 7-9pm Kung Fu Saloon, 510 Rio Grande, Austin
festivities to include music by DJ Matt Giles, various raffle items, eclectic local catering, photo booth, Maasai jewelry, games, video and more

The online sale of our beautiful Maasai bracelets is ready! Visit Our Store on Etsy now to view our selection and order today!
These authentic, traditional Maasai-designed bracelets are
being sold by the women of Maasai villages in Kenya through Well Aware to help raise funds for our life-saving water wells
there. Beading and ornamental jewelry design is a major craft of
the Maasai people. Much of the jewelry they wear is symbolic and, typically,
each color and pattern has a significance.
By purchasing a beautiful hand-made piece from the Maasai of
Oltinga, Kenya, you are adding a gorgeous addition to your jewelry box, as well
as helping to save lives. Asante sana!!
