It was quite a week!!! We
certainly appreciate our Teachers and Staff!!! A BIG thanks to Karen Fuller and all the volunteers who made this such a special event! WES
PTA has put over $35,000 back into the classrooms/school this year. Some of the grants covered: microscopes, books, math sharks,
risers, supplies, etc. Thank you

moment to check out the PTA website to see the presentation "Your
School, Your Kids, Your PTA" to find out what PTA does for Wellington

for Wellington. This year, Shannon
Johnson, WES Art Teacher, arranged for us to enjoy some of the works of Jackson
Pollock and Antoni Gaudi. This was
presented during Youth Art Month (March)!
Thanks Mrs. Johnson!
A
special thanks to Renee McCann and all
the volunteers who helped with creating the recycled sculptures that were
unveiled on Earth Day! Renee made sure that each student had
the opportunity to actively participate in the creation of the structures! To make the day even more special,

Spring Has Sprung!!!
Dear Wellington parents,
We can tell that spring has arrived ~ beautiful
sunshine for outdoor play, everyone sniffling and
sneezing with allergies, lots more skateboards and
scooters, TAKS testing.... it's a FUN season!
We've got some great activities coming up in the next two
months, so be sure to watch your teachers' newsletters or school webs. Carnivals, PTA performances,
field day and field trips, and many more are on the
horizon. We'd love to have you involved in them.
With the warmer weather, we usually get many more
students who are walking, riding scooters, etc. Please be extra careful in driving around the school and complying with the directions you can turn when exiting,
not dropping off in the middle lanes, speed issues, being patient, etc. We've been seeing more cell phone usage as cars are pulling in and wanted to remind
everyone that there are hefty fines for using cell phones in school zones! We've also noted more dogs coming to walk children home.
I'm a dog lover (four at home!) personally, but we do have students who are fearful of dogs and we also have crowded
sidewalks as it is. We ask that those of you walking with dogs have your
children meet you up at the edges of the school near Kenwood to keep the pooches away
from the general crowd. That helps a lot!
The kids are doing a WONDERFUL job remembering not to ride scooters, bikes, and skateboards until their off school
property.
Dress code reminders are always needed at this time of
year as the sun shines more! Please
check short/skirt length as your children are headed out to make sure they're approximately where the fingertips hit on the thigh
or four inches above mid-knee.
We've been seeing some pretty scanty short shorts lately. Also, spaghetti straps need to be saved for summer wear, unless the child
has a little top over them,
which stays on all day. Shoulder straps need to be the width of a dollar bill.
We're certainly enjoying these last few months with your
children as we head into the end of the 09-10 school year. Personally, I count my blessings daily
for having the fun of coming to Wellington every day. Sincerely, Robin
Macke, Ph.D. Principal

Volunteer of the Month for April - Mary
DeStasio
Mary always helps
out around the school when needed. She was a very helpful volunteer for the
Book Fairs and she is a Room Rep and Copy Mom. Mary even coordinated all of the
events for Literacy Night. Thanks, Mary!! You are appreciated!! Our
Volunteer of the Month is nominated by anyone at our school (staff, teachers,
students or other volunteers). They receive use of the "Volunteer of the Month"
parking spot in the front of the school and their bio and picture is placed on
the PTA board outside the front office. So, if you know of anyone who is doing
a great job as a volunteer please nominate them! We really want to recognize
our fantastic volunteers! Nomination forms can be found outside the front office
in the flyer bin by the PTA board.
** PLEASE BE
COURTEOUS AND DO NOT PARK IN THE VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH PARKING SPOT. **

Wildcat Carnival
May 14, 2010
The spring carnival is fast approaching!
This year we are looking forward to introducing 8 new games that your
PTA has purchased. A surprise
guest DJ will keep the crowd entertained, lots of yummy food, and a class
basket auction. Having said all
that, it can't be done without VOLUNTEERS!
If you would like to volunteer please call me at
972.691.4942 or email traci.gentile@gmail.com.
This year advance ticket sales will be $1.00 which will include
a free slice of pizza! At the door
tickets will also be $1.00 (minus the pizza). You might be wondering why we would do that? The answer is it helps us gage the
amount of food to pre-purchase and the number of prizes we should buy. More info will come home with your
child soon.
Please note that if you sponsored a game for last year's
carnival, your sponsorship will carry over to this year.

What is KidWorks?
KidWorks
is a safe, supportive place for
children who have experienced the divorce of their parents and its consequences. In the eight-week program provided without
charge at KidWorks, children and their
parents can share their experiences and express their feelings through play,
drama, art and other creative activities under the supervision of trained,
caring listeners.
Why provide support
services for children of divorce?
With an
attitude of "being strong" and "getting over it" toward children and families
dealing with divorce, our society places value on happiness, success and
health. Children of divorce may
feel "different" from their peers at school, church and sports. They may also feel the pressure to not
tell anyone (even in their family) how they think or feel. At KidWorks,
the shared circumstance of loss and major changes in their lives frees children
to explore, identify and express themselves and to heal from the trauma of
divorce. Children of divorce who
internalize their personal experience and do not have adequate support may
experience depression, school adjustment problems, substance abuse, or other
coping problems.
Who should come to KidWorks?
Children ages
5-18 and adults who are trying to cope with the results of divorce will find
others like themselves at KidWorks. Groups are divided 5-8, 9-12, 13-18 and
adults. Parents or guardians
accompanying KidWorks children have a
support group of their own to discuss the special needs of their children, effective
parenting skills and the needs of parents dealing with the aftermath of a
divorce.
What will a program
participant do at KidWorks?
Group sharing,
art activities, puppets, drama, and play, are some of the activities that
trained facilitators will companion children through. Facilitators are trained to listen to children and respond
in an encouraging, supportive manner.
Children can paint, draw, and recreate stories.
What is the difference
in support for children of divorce and counseling?
Support
services are not treatment. They
are not counseling. Support is
listening, being present to children as they share thoughts & experiences,
express feelings and ask important life situation questions. Support includes trusting that a child
will share and heal when given a safe environment in which to do this
work. It can even be fun. Children of divorce are not "broken"
and do not need "fixing." They
need to be given a place where they feel comfortable enough to express their
deepest hurts.
Children and
families needing additional special services will be referred to licensed
professional counselors in CounselingWorks.
