Support Your Immune System with Massage Therapy and Acupuncture
Massage Therapists and their clients have long seen evidence that massage therapy helps support overall health and wellbeing. A recent study published in the October Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine supports that observation with scientific research. The study, done at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, explores the effects of one Swedish massage therapy session on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system and immune function of normal individuals. Researchers tested levels of various hormones, chemicals, and white-blood cells in the test subjects before and after the massage treatment. A control application of light touch was used for comparison.Read the abstract here "Preliminary data suggest that a single session of Swedish Massage Therapy produces measurable biologic effects. If replicated, these findings may have implications for managing inflammatory and autoimmune conditions." This is the type of research needed to finally prove how effective even a single session of massage can be for everyone!
Acupuncture is also widely known to enhance immune function and support overall health. Modern scientific studies, particularly with cancer patients, show the effects of acupuncture on the immune system. Click here to learn more about this research.
