Brenda Dear Friends,

Giving Thanks As we celebrate our many blessings this Thanksgiving I give thanks for each of you, for your continued friendship and support, and for the dynamic community of practitioners that is The Teal Center.  In this issue of our newsletter we say goodbye to two outstanding therapists and welcome two new acupuncturists.

Comings and Goings Saying goodbye is always a bit sad, but life beckons people on, and others come in bringing new talents and friendship. I'm grateful for those who come and for those who go.

Take Care of Yourself During the coming winter holiday season, stay well and enjoy the festivities. Keep your stress level down and boost your immune system with regular massage or acupuncture. See the article and links below to learn about research supporting what we know from experience!

A Thanksgiving Reflection ~

Best of all is to preserve everything in a pure, still heart, and let there be for every pulse a thanksgiving, and for every breath a song.

Yoshi is Moving West ~

YoshiAll the leaves are brown
And the sky is grey

Yoshi will be leaving
On a winter's day
He'll be safe and warm

Though not in LA!
California dreamin'
On a winter's day.

In January, after three and a half years here with us, Yoshi will be taking his unique blend of intuitive focused bodywork and his love of good food and adventure to the San Francisco Bay area. We will miss you, Yoshi. Thank you for bringing your passion for life and great bodywork to The Teal Center. May you find much joy and success in your new endeavors.

Support Your
          Immune System
with Massage Therapy and Acupuncture

Massage Therapists and their clients have long seen evidence that  massage therapy helps support overall health and wellbeing.  A recent study published in the October Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine supports that observation with scientific research.

The study, done at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in  Los Angeles, explores the effects of one Swedish massage therapy session on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system and immune function of normal individuals. Researchers tested levels of various hormones, chemicals, and white-blood cells in the test subjects before and after the massage treatment. A control application of light touch was used for comparison.Read the abstract here

"Preliminary data suggest that a single session of Swedish Massage Therapy produces measurable biologic effects. If replicated, these findings may have implications for managing inflammatory and autoimmune conditions."

This is the type of research needed to finally prove how effective even  a single session of massage can be for everyone!

Acupuncture is also widely known to enhance immune function and support overall health.  Modern scientific studies, particularly with cancer patients, show the effects of acupuncture on the immune system. Click here to learn more about this research.
