More Americans Receive Massage for Medical and Health Reasons~
Results from the
13th annual consumer survey conducted by the American
Massage Therapy Association® indicate that 32
percent of Americans are seeking massage for medical and
health reasons, tying relaxation and stress reduction
for the first time as the top reasons people get
massages.
Additionally, 25 percent of Americans ages 35-44 have
talked to their doctor or healthcare provider about
massage therapy this year, compared to 14 percent in
2008. Of those who discussed massage therapy with their
doctors, 52 percent say their doctor strongly
recommended/encouraged them to get a massage.
A vast majority of Americans, 86 percent, agree that
massage can be effective in reducing pain, and 85
percent agree that massage can be beneficial for health
and wellness.
At The Teal Center our highly trained and experienced massage therapists have specialized in clinical massage therapy and bodywork for pain relief, injury prevention and healing since 1990. We are pleased to see these survey results showing that people increasingly recognize the value of this work in maintaining and regaining health.
Remember to use your FSA or HSA for medically necessary massage therapy and acupuncture at The Teal Center.

Free Group Ear Acupuncture~
Kate Quinn Stewart, Licensed Acupunturist at The Teal Center, and Leah Reeves Butler, Ph.D., acupuncture student at Tai Sophia, are offering this volunteer clinic to active duty military personnel and veterans of all conflicts experiencing symptoms of military stress or PTSD.
The sessions are being held at John Lyon VFW Post #3150, 2116 North 19th Street, Arlington, VA 22201, Friday lunchtime at 11:45 to 12:45, on 10/30, 11/6, 11/13, 12/4, 12/11, and 12/18. www.vfw3150.org
An additional session is being offered on Wednesday evening 11/18 from 6:45to 7:45 in the community room on the first floor of the Randolph Towers Apartments, 4001 North Ninth Street, Arlington, 22203, two blocks from the Ballston Metro.
The ear acupuncture protocol offered is being used by the VA and volunteer groups around the country to support veterans and active duty military personnel. It may help to manage stress, improve sleep, increase focus and help the recipient feel at ease.
One veteran made the following comment about receiving ear acupuncture:
For me, every session provides relaxation and a calmness that I have rarely found since returning from from Iraq. My fellow vet and I started out by receiving ear acupuncture and we found the treatment extremely beneficial in helping improve sleep and reducing way-related military stress...acupuncture is something I always look forward to because of the many emotional and physical benefits it provides.
