CVEP Celebrates Local Teacher Externs
On Wednesday, CVEP's Advanced Technology Industry Council & the College of the Desert celebrated the 2012 Summer Faculty Externship Program. Sixteen teachers from the valley's three school districts became the academic equivalent to a student intern in the field of renewable energy. As faculty externs they visited renewable energy sites and innovative utility production plants for a first-hand look at real-world business applications, and inspirational prompts on how the experience can be taken back to the classroom. The program was created in partnership with CVEP's Workforce Excellence initiative and College of the Desert (COD), the program is funded through a California Community College Workforce Innovation Partnerships Grant.

CVEP Scholar of the Month
As the new school year begins, CVEP would like to highlight a few of our scholarship students via this weekly newsletter. Our first "CVEP Scholar of the Month" is Furrukh Irshad. Originally born in Pakistan Furrukh's family came to the U.S. when he was just four year's old, settling in Palm Springs with the hope that the children would receive a good education. Furrukh attended Palm Springs High School where he was a part of the Business Academy that focused on learning Business Principles and techniques. His experience in the academy inspired him to launch his own business, Crescent Kings, which is a clothing line that offers a cleaner urban apparel look. Furrukh graduated high school in 2011 and received a two-year scholarship from CVEP. Currently attending the University of Redlands, he is majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management. His goal is to complete his bachelor's degree, continue to grow his business and eventually pursue a Master's of Business Administration.
