CVEP Weekly News

Youth Entrepreneurs Wow Judges

On Tuesday about 50 Palm Springs High School Business Academy students participated in the first "Fast-Pitch" competition hosted by CVEP's Workforce Excellence team and it's Youth Entrepreneur Program.  The program was made possible through a $25,000 grant awarded by the Business & Entrepreneurship Center of Rancho Santiago Community College District. Unique to the program designed in partnership with College of the Desert was the exposure valley students got to real world opportunities, workshops and business conferences were held. Shadowing was set up. All types of entrepreneurs and business leaders were introduced - from sage executives to innovative upstarts who were fresh-out of school.  The students, who have been in training for this competition for months, where given a business idea earlier that morning and in teams of 5 to 6 students just four hours later presented a Business Plan to a panel of judges.  The students were extremely professional and had very well thought out business plans and market entry strategies.  The winning team all received iPads and their presentation video will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Education who recently put out a call for such videos for a national competition.  These students are set to be the future entrepreneurs and business leaders in the Coachella Valley.  The story aired on a few news stations - click here to watch the story on KESQ.

CVSBDC Fireside Chat Kickoff Event

On Thursday the Coachella Valley Small Business Development Center (CVSBDC) kicked off its Business Success Program with a morning Fireside Chat featuring local business owners and valley leaders. Featured speakers for the first Entrepreneurial Workshop Series program, which was hosted by the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership and College of the Desert, were Charissa Farley, of Farley Interlocking Paving; Engin Onural, of The Venue Sushi Bar & Sake Lounge; Dr. Nicole Ortiz, of Live Well Clinic; and Michael Collins, of The Works Floor & Wall. The workshop was a complete success for CVSBDC's kickoff event giving local businesses a networking opportunity to share ideas and talk through problems they may be facing. Business Success Program Workshops will be held on a monthly or more frequent basis, check back here for workshop details.

What's New with the CViHub?
The Coachella Valley Innovation Hub has taken great strides in the last few months since its inception. Earlier this month the managing director, Joe Wallace was asked by the Office of the Governor to co-chair the state wide development of an umbrella or platform to better define areas of concentration for all California innovation hubs. The CViHub welcomed a new sponsor earlier this month, the law offices of Stutz Artiano Shinoff & Holtz - we thank you for supporting this CVEP program. One of the CViHub virtual clients held a workshop at the Rabobank Regional Business Center this week to discuss Cloud Computing - defining it, explaining the players and talking about its future.

CViHub client and publicly traded company Attune RTD's (OCT BB: AURT.OB) publicly traded company stock price has increased 40% since joining the CViHub.  We look forward to continued growth as awareness of this innovative product spreads throughout the industry.
