Energy Committee Tours Coachella Valley
This week the California Assembly Select Committee on the Renewable Energy Economy in Rural California, chaired by Assemblyman V. Manuel Perez, visited the Coachella and Imperial Valley's for a public hearing and to meet with area officials and tour renewable energy sites. CVEP along with Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, RBF Consulting and Kaiser Grille hosted a dinner on Thursday evening to give local valley leaders and renewable energy stakeholders an opportunity to speak with the committee about local energy issues. On Friday the committee was touring the valley energy spots including a wind farm, a solar project and a geothermal plant on their way down to El Centro for the public hearing about renewable energy development. Desert Sun reporter K Kaufmann, who is on the bus tour, is planning to post on her Green Energy blog as well as udpating Twitter along the way.

Budding Valley Entrepreneurs
Here's a team of aspiring, young upstarts the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership and its Pathways to Success Program points to with pride. Josh White, Alejandra Rucobo, Brian Lopez and Adan Sanchez, all of Desert Hot Springs High School, won first place in the Kid Wind Coachella Valley 2012 competition on March 3. Fourteen teams from six schools competed for the best wind turbine design and exhibit. Isabella Ceja, a student who accompanied the Desert Mirage High School team, which won second place, said it was a "cool" event "It was definitely not what we expected,'' she said, and there were plenty of challenges, too.
"You had to make sure the blades wouldn't fly off, and that your stands stood straight,'' she said. "Next year, we'll be prepared to come at it for a first."

Students from the top teams were congratulated this past Thursday during CVEP's Renewable Energy Roundtable. Congratulations Teams! |

Celebrating Local Talent
CVEP's screensaver, "Climate for Success,'' won a bronze ADDY award Friday at the American Advertising Federation (AAF) Palm Springs Desert Cities' annual ADDY Awards Ceremony and Gala event. Created by Kiner Communications, visitors to Rabobank Regional Business Center see the CVEP logo and an ever-changing stream of "Climate for Success" messages, as soon as they step in the lobby door. The faces and images of Workforce Excellence and Blueprint strategies roll across a flat-screen TV behind the reception desk.
Also the same evening, our valley's creative community demonstrated that it can compete with creative firms in the major markets by earning a total of 71 ADDY Awards. As more and more creative professionals choose the valley for their home, and as more and more valley businesses recognize the caliber of the talent pool that is available to them at the local level, Creative Arts & Design will flourish as a business sector. |
