March 9, 2012

Good Afternoon,

A busy week at CVEP, please read a few highlights from the week and enjoy the newsletter.
Coachella Valley SBDC Update

CVEP opened the Coachella Valley Small Business Development Center (CVSBDC) at the Rabobank Regional Business Center in mid-January of this year.  Funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration, the State of California and other private sector partners, the SBDC provides local businesses and entrepreneurs with expert consulting, training, access to capital and other resources.  Since opening its doors 8 weeks ago, the CVSBDC has met with over 30 clients totaling over 100 advising hours.  These clients include already established businesses here in the valley as well as several start-up companies.

The CVSBDC can be credited with saving 8 local jobs and is currently working with companies to create over 50 jobs for local residents in the next few months.  In addition to advising, CVSBDC will assist businesses looking to obtain financing.  Currently they are working on securing over $4 million for local businesses.  This is a great new resource CVEP has at its business hub, the Coachella Valley SBDC program aims to support economic growth and development of the valley economy by advancing job creation, retention and business expansion, matching perfectly with the goals outlined in CVEP's blueprint.   Learn more about the day to day activities by "liking" the SBDC Facebook page.

CVEP's Legislative Committee

This week at CVEP's Legislative meeting the committee decided to develop a platform to provide a vehicle for summarizing CVEP positions and to provide the organization direction on issues to accurately reflect the economic/business development interests of CVEP and the Coachella Valley. This will be undertaken and worked on by the committee over the next several months.

The committee also voted to support the following bills authored by Assemblyman V. Manuel Perez: AB1545: Bi-National Economic Development Bank, AB2619: Start up California Impact Investment Fund, and AB1137: Small Business Export Assistance and Attracting Private Investment.
