February 17, 2012

Good Afternoon,

Here is a highlight of the recent activities at CVEP, it's been a great week!
Midyear Update

CVEP has recently visited a few cities with more on the calendar to discuss current activities and give a midyear update; here are the basics of this update.  In light of the recent elimination of California's best economic growth tool, redevelopment agencies, it is now even more important for CVEP to take the leadership role in growing the local economy.  CVEP has opened its doors at the Rabobank Regional Business Center, what has truly become a one-stop shop with the inclusion of the CViHub and the CVSBDC.  Between July 1 and December 31, 2011, CVEP has opened 92 client cases, of which 32 of those companies have added jobs resulting in 951 total direct local jobs with an additional 664 indirect jobs (based on the multiplier for this area) for a total of 1,615 direct and indirect jobs resulting in an economic impact of over $110 million.  Two big wins have been reported with the help of CVEP and its resources, the decision of companies to stay here in the Coachella Valley including CareFusion, retaining 330 local jobs and this week's announcement about Attune which is discussed below.  It's been a challenging year and we know we have an uphill battle but CVEP, with successes to show, is arming itself for this challenge and looking to be the vehicle to grow the Coachella Valley economy.

Another CVEP Client to Stay in Palm Springs

On Thursday at CVEP's Renewable Energy Roundtable, Attune RTD announced they will be staying in the Coachella Valley. Attune, has been very heavily courted recently by Texas with extremely attractive packages to move their business out of California. CVEP and the Coachella Valley Small Business Development Center (CVSBDC) heard about these offers to relocate their business and went into high gear putting together a "Green Team" of Valley leaders and other high profile individuals to address this potential relocation. A speaker at the RER, Tom Bianco, Attune's CFO, made the announcement that the company has decided to stay right here in the Coachella Valley. He stated he has been very impressed with the resources CVEP put together so quickly to address their situation and is very comforted in knowing that there is a company out there aggressively working toward improving the economy of the valley. Staying here in the Coachella Valley means adding about 50 new jobs to the economy over the next several years.
