CVEP Awards $1.6 Million in Scholarships
CVEP's Workforce Excellence team is extremely proud to be awarding scholarships to our valley's graduating seniors. This year with the help of our 22 matching partners, CVEP will be awarding over $1.6 million in new scholarships to 360 valley students; this brings the number of students currently receiving CVEP scholarships to 428. These students will be attending colleges and universities throughout the nation with 49% staying here locally, beginning their college career at the College of the Desert. We are proud of these students and we look forward to following their successes. |

100 Leading Locations for Business in 2011
The spring edition of Area Development magazine lists the "100 Leading Locations for 2011- Desirable Places for Doing Business." The list is a ranking of locations that are becoming highly desirable to all size and types of businesses. The ranking is an aggregate of several highly regarded location survey results including Forbes and CNN Money, with the "100 Leading Locations" being those locations mentioned repeatedly in the varous surveys. Which cities scored the highest? Austin, Texas was #1 with Denver and Seattle closely following. Only one California City was even in the top 100, San Diego was listed in the bottom half of the list. Big Companies Aggressively Jump into Clean Tech
Last week, GoEd, California Governor's Office of Economic Development, posted on their Facebook page a recent USA Today article, in reference to that article, the post stated "virtually all of the investments in Clean Tech are happening in California, and the job creation potential is being realized." The article also posted on GoEd's site titled "Big Companies Aggressively Jump into Clean Tech" discusses the potential for clean tech, "last week Google said it is pumping $55 million into a project to build wind turbines in Southern California."
