Gov Signs $8M Renewable Energy Job Training Legislation
In April, Governor Brown signed legislation that could help create a skilled workforce in the green technology sector, a Blueprint targeted area. The legislation would establish an ongoing revenue source for career training by teaching students the required skills needed to work in the green or renewable energy field. According to the bill, "the financial support would be awarded via grants to school districts that propose to implement or maintain a partnership academy that focuses on employment in clean technology businesses and renewable energy businesses." The "partnership" referred to is excellently demonstrated by CVEP's Workforce Excellence Advanced Technology Industry Council and their relationship with the Valley's school districts which gives this career academy an excellent advantage in applying for such grant.

Mentoring the Future
This month's issue of Desert Health News features an article written by representatives of CVEP's Health Care Council. The article highlights the involvement of local students in "Career Explorations" a unique program which gives Palm Springs Unified School District students the opportunity to experience the health care profession through tours and meetings with professional at Eisenhower Medical Center and Desert Regional Medical Center.
The article also features a spotlight one of CVEP's Pathways to Success students, Sandra Carbajal, who is graduating from CSUSB Palm Desert and is on her way to Purdue University to study neuroscience with hopes of eventually returning to the Valley to teach and continue research.
