CEDARBROOK MISSIONARY UPDATE

Claudia Long

Claudia writes- Greetings from Evangelical Churches Winning All (ECWA),Claudia "Bunnie" Long, and the 661 ECWA Camp Youth Alive campers and staff of its 2010 camps in Lafia, Nassaraw-Toto, Gombe, Jos, Kaduna, and Tangale in Nigeria. I work in the ECWA Headquarters' Christian Education Department, National Coordinator of ECYA Unit, where we prepare, organize, and fund-raise for the camps and work with the department. How amazing that the work I do today began when I was a camper at Camp Cedarbrook and dedicated my life to Christ! ECYA camp begins with three days of staff orientation followed by a 5-7 day session with campers. Like CCA, there are Morning Watch, Bible Exploration, and Hut Evening Devotions. Main differences: the camps are coed and all campers must take a crafts activity to encourage self-reliance and self-supporting skills. Many testified at campfire of what they learned, being challenged in their walk with God. 636 campers made spiritual decisions this year! After all these years promoting ECYA, it's exciting that ECWA church leadership and its members are finally catching the idea of the impact of Christian camping on its youth. Jesus Christ is making the difference in young lives. Jos campsite has been booked more often by church agencies in the off season. In fact, the Jos District Youth Council and its Youth Fellowships (ECYA campers leaders) held their DYC conference at Jos campsite with more than 700 youth in attendance. Pray for God's blessings and guidance to provide funds for ECYA camp leader salaries and campsite development. Pray for camp leaders to rise out of these camps and ECWA leaders to support the ongoing ministry of ECYA. Pray for "Auntie" Claudia for wisdom, endurance, and God's guidance in furthering the foundation of ECWA Camp Youth Alive. To join me for missions in youth camping ministry ECYA,contact campclaudia608@gmail.com or SIMUSA 704-588-4300 (ask for the candidate department, and mention my name). Thanks for your prayers and support!

REFER-A-FRIEND DISCOUNTS

By referring a friend, you and your friend can earn credit toward your camper tuition fees. Because our best advertising is done by our current Cedarbrook families, the Refer-A-Friend program is our way of saying "thank you" for spreading the word. The more friends you refer using this program, the more credit you earn. You could even attend camp this summer for free!

Campfire Friends

How to Refer a Friend:

1.            Give the promotional code REFCCA11 to friends and family who have never before sent a camper to a Camp Cedarbrook in the Adirondacks program.

2.            Tell them to be sure to enter your full first and last name and the promotional code as the referring friend when they register their child for a summer camp session.

3.            They save $50 and you save $50.

Krieger Family

CEDARBROOK VOLUNTEERS

Sue and Jim Krieger first discovered Camp Cedarbrook in 1998, when their home church re-started its girls club program. Their daughters Jenny, grade 3, and Katie, grade 1, had a wonderful introduction to girls club. Susan and the girls volunteered for their very first work weekend that May, and returned to camp for the Mother-Daughter weekend that June with two other families from club. Jenny attended camp that summer, as well. Since that first year, they've been hooked on camp! The girls attended weekends and summers for years, while Susan volunteered wherever she was needed. Jim joined in the fun a few years later as his work schedule permitted. Jim retired as a captain from the NYC Fire Department after 25 years. He is very handy, and can build or fix just about anything. At camp he's built cabinets, shelves, stairs, doorways, fences, and more. He also likes demolition, and helped with Wally's cabin renovation! In his free time, he likes woodworking, reading, writing, and target shooting. For years, Susan was a homemaker, mother, and chauffeur. As the girls grew, she started her own sewing business which keeps her busy today. Susan loves the outdoors and just about everything about camp. Her hobbies include hiking, scrapbooking, quilting, and photography. Jim and Susan attend Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, in New Windsor, NY. Jenny, 22, is a junior at the College of St.Rose studying to become a teacher. She loves children and hopes to have a few of her own someday. At camp, she helps where needed-putting up the tents may be her favorite task. Katie, 20, is a sophomore at Marist College, also studying to become a teacher. Katie loves animals, kids, nature, reading, and hiking. She can be found at camp cleaning the kitchen rafters, painting coolers, or building fences. This spring, the family hopes to inspire others from their church to join them for a work weekend at camp. The more the merrier!

Al Dougherty

Al Dougherty went home to be with the Lord on February 21 with wife June and daughters Ruth and Lorrie, and son Jim at his side. Al and June became involved with camp when Ruth attended a summer session in 1966. They immediately saw the need for workers. Al and June and their children attended work weekends for years, enjoying wonderful fellowship and making many friends. Al became an integral part of the site development committee. In 1990, Al and June moved to Hadley, New York- just 16 miles from camp- and Al became the "go-to" guy. Any time we needed someone to check something on the camp property, Al drove to camp and took care of business. We thank God for Al's many years of faithful service and his love for this ministry.
