Camporee June 4-6 | |
Club leaders love to use Camporee weekends to visit Camp Cedarbrook and end their year with a wonderful experience in the out-of-doors. And we do all the programming! While the girls participate in activities designed to meet club badge requirements, their leaders can participate in comprehensive leadership training. Some of this year's leadership topics include Outcomes and Inputs, Service Project Roundtable, and Managing Your Time at Club. Space is still available, but filling quickly.

Dan & Naomi *
CEDARBROOK MISSIONARY UPDATE

When they were on staff at CCA, Dan & Naomi led wilderness trips. They are well trained for what God is calling them to now. Read on to hear about their upcoming adventures as missionaries with WEC.
*Last name omitted because of their work in sensitive areas.
Dan and Naomi are in Pennsylvania attending 12 weeks of candidate orientation to prepare for their next post in the mission field. Currently, Dan's dad is homeschooling their children (Miriam, Jamin, Simeon, Abigail) while Naomi and Dan attend classes. Kemuel, the youngest of the bunch, stays with Naomi as she attends class.
After graduation in May, they will be posted to what their organization calls a "creative access nation," where they will be considered students of the culture and language, or English teachers. The first two years will concentrate on language study, since they will need a working vocabulary in one language and fluency in a second language. As they study, they will discern what work they will do in the area. These locations always need English and computer teachers. They also see the need for elementary education, particularly for girls, since education for girls is either non-existent or very poor in many Muslim cultures. They may start a soccer club or children's program. Through all this, their goal is to plant and multiply home churches and to train leaders.
They will join families from Canada and New Zealand already at work. These families say the living conditions are a lot like camping year round. Naomi and Dan always joked that they would like to join an Amish community, and this seems to be their chance for a "non-technical" lifestyle! They will have to pack some fancy equipment like a pasteurizer and a water purifier. Candles and gas lamps will be in daily use. To survive the winter, they will have to preserve much of their own food and keep a stove going day and night.
Please pray for Dan, Naomi, and family as they make preparations for the future.

Tim & Danielle Hedgepeth
MEET OUR CEDARBROOK VOLUNTEERS
Tim Hedgepeth was a former Northern Frontier camper and staff member... and then he met Danielle Braaten. She brought him to his first work weekend when they were dating, and so began a relationship with Camp Cedarbrook -and its toilets. One of his first camp projects was a toilet repair and he's been fixing and replacing them ever since. Danielle's family has been involved with camp since the beginning. Her grandmother helped with the planning for the first summer in the Adirondacks and her mom was a camper and later a staff member. She has been at camp since she was 8 years old and now Tim has helped at camp for the past 8 years. Since Danielle has the privilege of being a full time staff member, Tim is the real volunteer in the family. He is at camp for every work weekend and on call all summer- sometimes to fix a leak, sometimes to drive the backhoe, and sometimes he comes just to see his family. Tim and Danielle moved to the Albany area when they married to be closer to camp. They have attended Loudonville Community Church for more than 6 years. Allison (age 3) and Kristen (6 months) love being at camp and can't wait to attend a father/daughter session with Tim!
