Heading into the Holidays . . .
|
This IS Vermont and weather should never be taken for granted. One year we have too much snow, or it's unbearably cold . . . but it is Mother Nature who calls the shots, not us. The Stratton snow-making team has had it's challenges from the very start of this season - but they continue to pull it off. Yes, we need more terrain to handle the holiday crowds, but the commitment is there - make snow whenever possible - ditto grooming! Ski safe and enjoy the moment . . . and go ahead, do the snow-dance! |
A ski tip from the pros . . .
|
It's early season. Our skills focus should be balance. Work on it off the hill. Guys - while you're shaving, gradually shift balance from foot to foot as we do in our skiing flexion and extension. You do flex and extend - right? Keep your shoulders level. Balance on one foot - change feet. Ladies - as you do your hair - same exercise - keep it slow - no hopping. Watch the breathing. Practice slow and steady. On this kind of gnarly snow it's easy to tense up. Practice exhaling - blow that tension away. |

Ski with new friends and improve your skiing this year. Click on the link at the top of this page to print out an application and just show up at the Trailblazer Meeting Place - M/W/F at 9:30.
New for this season . . . Saturday!
Members have requested a solid intermediate Saturday ski group. We still need 4 more members to make this happen! The dates are January 7, 21, 28, February 4, 11, 25, March 3,10, 17, 24 - sessions run from 8:45 - 11:40. Skiing will be essentially top to bottom with no more than one stop. Pace will be quick but not frenetic. This is solid intermediate skiing. Coaching will be light but as specific as a participant wishes. The leader is a 20 year plus PSIA Level III coach who has worked at five different schools. The emphasis will be on fun, variety and camaraderie: skill and improvement will be a by-product not a hardcore focus. We will have one coffee or warm-up break depending on weather and group feeling/dynamics of the day.
If a session must be cancelled due to conditions every effort will be made for a make-up. The seasonal fee is $349 (plus tax) payable at sign up. No refunds will be offered, no guests or substitutes and this offer is valid for ski season 2011/12 only. If this sounds interesting . . . last chance!

Lost or Stolen Skis . . .
|
Your ski equipment is an easy target. Sometimes "equipment disappearance" is willful, and sometimes we are guilty ourselves - but why take a chance?
This is especially the case during busy periods where a thief could easily take your skis and blend in as just another skier. Your ski equipment is valuable, and theft can be devastating.
Follow these tips to prevent the theft of your equipment. Whenever possible, keep your skis locked to a rack. Keep your skis in sight. Loop your poles over your skis to prevent an accidental equipment mix-up. When it's busy, separate them - place one ski and pole on one rack and place another ski on a different rack. Or, swap skis with a friend and create two unmatched pairs. Most thieves don't have the patience to search for your other ski. As another option, Stratton provides ski storage where you can lock your equipment while you're not skiing.
