Existing Home Sales Show Another Gain
It was positive news this month from the National Association of RealtorsŪ. According to NAR existing home sales rose again in September, affirming that a sales recovery has begun. Existing home sales jumped 10% in September as compared to August.
NAR's cheif economist stated "A housing recovery is taking place but will be choppy at times depending on the duration and impact of a foreclusure moratorium. But the overall direction should be a gradual rising trend in home sales with buyers responding to historically low mortgage interest rates and very favorable affordability conditions."

Dierberg's Considering Osage Beach Location
According to an article on LakeExpo.com the commercial property previously occupied by High Pointe Shopping Center in Osage Beach is being pursued by Dierberg Markets, Inc. High Pointe Center, once home to Wal-Mart and Consumers Grocery, was completely demolished earlier this year leaving a 14.5 acre parcel ripe for development.
Dierbergs Markets, Inc. currently has the property under contract contingent upon the approval of a TIF application. If the TIF is approved Dierberg's plans to build several other large retail spaces in addition to their grocery store and is currently negotiating with Best Buy as an additional anchor store.
In early October the Board of Aldermen approved the request to refer the TIF application to the Osage Beach TIF Commission. The next step in the process is for the TIF Commission to hold a public hearing regarding the application.

Dogwood Animal Shelter
When you think about Lake of the Ozarks the first things that come to mind are boating, swimming, golfing etc., but a closer look reveals a tight knit community with several caring and progressive organizations. In this section we would like to give you an in depth look at these establishments. This month's spotlight is on the Dogwood Animal Shelter. Dogwood started serving the Lake area in 1976 when a dedicated group of volunteers decided to take action. This no kill shelter offers several programs including a low cost spay, neuter and microchip clinic, obedience classes and more. The shelter is home to approximately 250 animals and in 2009 found permanent homes for 650 pets! Dogwood is run completely on volunteers, donations and the proceeds from the Dogwood Animal Shelter Thrift Shop. Mark your calendars to attend the Annual Pajama Breakfast at On the Rise Bakery and Bistro December 12th. All proceeds from the breakfast will benefit the shelter. For more information on donating, volunteering, upcoming events or adopting a cat or dog visit daslakeoftheozarks.com. |

Go Green Tip of the Month | | Use power strips to switch off televisions, home theater equipment and stereos when you're not using them. Their "stand-by" consumption can be equivalent to that of a 100 watt light bulb running constantly. | |
|
Fun Fact
At roughly 1,300 miles, the total shoreline of Lake of the Ozarks is longer than the coastline of the entire state of California! |
