Last-Minute Holiday Gifts

There's no time to waste if you want to purchase a holiday gift at CityArts, Old Cowtown Museum or the Mid-America All-Indian Center. Friday is the last day before Christmas to visit any or all of the locations to find one-of-a-kind gifts for the art and history lovers in your life. And don't forget: CityArts also offers gift certificates that can be applied toward art classes and/or art supplies; Cowtown and Indian Center memberships are also available.

City Collects 500 Letters to Santa

Sheridan Bussard receives her grand prize certificate from John D'Angelo, manager of the City's Division of Arts & Cultural Services.

Santa Claus just might get writer's cramp before he's finished writing his responses to Wichita area children this year -- but something tells us he won't mind!

In what's becoming a yearly tradition, the City of Wichita sent nearly 500 Letters to the North Pole filled with the holiday wishes of local boys and girls. The letters were dropped off Nov. 28-Dec. 14 at Century II, CityArts, the Mid-America All-Indian Center and Old Cowtown Museum.

In addition to getting a response from Santa himself, all children who participated were entered into a gift giveaway. Eight-year-old Sheridan Bussard of Wichita was chosen to receive the grand prize: a ride on a Wichita fire truck.

winners and a sampling of

Support Our Mission

Consider making a year-end gift to the Indian Center. In the past year, the museum has greatly increased its opportunities to share the American Indian culture with the community. However, we continue to need the support of donors to help us to engage, educate and enlighten people of all ages, cultural and social backgrounds.

Financial gifts to the center are fully tax deductible and may be given in honor of loved ones. For more information, contact Indian Center Director April Scott at (316) 350-3341 or ascott@wichita.gov.

'Have A Seat' At Cowtown

A new exhibit is open in Old Cowtown Museum's Empire Hall Gallery that is sure to make you want to sit down and rest for a spell.

"Have A Seat: An Exhibit of Period Seating from 1825-1895" puts a spotlight on a piece of furniture that is often overlooked as pieces of art.

"The variety of chair design from the era is just amazing," said Cowtown director David Flask. "It's extremely interesting that so much attention to detail was given to something as simple as a chair." ... (read more)
