Wichita Flight Festival Delivers on 'Fun'
The 2011 Wichita Flight Festival started off strong on Saturday, Aug. 20 with people lining up at the gate wanting to be the first ones inside to experience the "Fun of Flight" they had heard so much about. With such a high level of community anticipation, it's no surprise that before the festival ended late Sunday afternoon, an estimated 15,000 people had walked through the gates at Colonel James Jabara Airport. Visit Open House Tonight
CityArts will be hosting an Open House on Friday, Aug. 26, in conjunction with its Final Friday activities. The Open House will take place from 5:30-9 p.m.

| CityArts' classrooms will be open, and teachers will be on hand to lead demonstrations and answer questions. This is your opportunity to learn about all the traditional and nontraditional art classes CityArts offers for people of all ages (download Fall Brochure).
If you find a class you like, registrations will be taken that night for classes that start the week of Sept. 12.

Painting by Kineu Rutledge

Artist Reception "Manidoo Waabiwin," a new exhibit by Wichita high school student Kineu Rutledge will open with a reception on Friday, Sept. 30 at the Indian Center. The event will be from 6-8 p.m. and included in Final Friday festivities. "Manidoo Waabiwin" means "Seeing through the Spirit." Rutledge is an Ojibwe and Meswaki artist and attends Wichita Northeast Magnet High School. The reception will also recognize the closing of the Blackbear Bosin exhibit. Indian Taco Vendor The Indian Center is currently seeking an Indian taco vendor. More information and vendor application form is available here. |

 Gunfights and More Gunfights Gunfighters will be invading Old Cowtown Museum on Saturday, Sept. 3 for the exciting "Age of the Gunfighter" event. It is a Reenactment Guild of America-sanctioned competition, so the streets are sure to be filled with trigger-happy cowboys.
Serious gunfighting teams are coming from Texas, Missouri and Colorado, with more states to be announced. ... (read more)
Our 'Green' Ancestors The "Next to Godliness: Cleaning the Victorian Way" exhibit at Cowtown gives visitors a look at a much simpler time when people made do with what they had because money and materials were hard to come by. Displays of cleaning tools and artifacts are included.
People who visit this exhibit will learn how to make a "green" cleaning kit using the same materials and ingredients our prairie relatives utilized.

Celebrate KS' Birthday
A statewide party to celebrate Kansas' 150th birthday is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8 in downtown Wichita. Everyone is invited! The celebration includes a Sunflower Parade, booths spotlighting Kansas cities and businesses and a "Kansas: Home on the Range" concert. Now is your time to sign up to be a participant in the parade. Sept. 23: Alfresco Gala, 6:30-11 p.m. For one night only, the gardens will be transformed into stunning outdoor dining rooms for our annual Alfresco Gala.
