Indian Center
(316) 350-3341
650 N. Seneca
American Indian Festival
The Mid-America All-Indian Center is looking for volunteers to assist in various capacities during the American Indian Festival for four-hour time periods. The majority of help is needed with children's hands-on activities.
The festival is scheduled for July 9-10 in Century II Expo Hall. Between 7,000-10,000 people are expected to attend.
Booth space is also available. Retail stores, arts and craft vendors, health and wellness facilities, nonprofit organizations and schools are welcome. Booth prices start at $200 for both days.
Those interested in volunteering or securing booth space should contact April Scott at (316) 350-3340 or ascott@wichita.gov.
Demystifying Powwows The Indian Center will host lectures on "Shawls" (June 8) and "Powwow Dances" (June 22). Both are from 7-9 p.m. in the Buffalo Room. The lectures are free and open to the public.
They are tied to the Indian Center's American Indian Festival July 9-10 at Century II Expo Hall. So often people who are not connected to the American Indian community don't attend powwows because they aren't sure if they're welcome and don't understand the meaning of what is going on around them. These lectures are intended to "demystify" powwow activities for the general public and reinforce the fact that everyone is welcome.
Shawl-Making Classes
The Indian Center is sponsoring shawl-making classes on June 4 and 25. Each class costs $20 per person, plus the cost of materials. Registration is limited to the first 12 participants. ... ( read more) |
