Discussing Future of Wichita Arts & Culture Industry

lecture series

(Left to Right) John D'Angelo, Teddie Barlow, Chris Gulick and Ann Keefer participate in a panel discussion about "Building Audiences" on March 17.

The City of Wichita has launched a six-part "Arts & Culture Industry Lecture Series" to bring the community together to discuss how local arts organizations and artists can successfully adapt to the changing arts environment.

The first lecture, "Building Audiences," was held on March 17 and included an informative panel discussion and questions from the audience. Ann Keefer, representing the Tallgrass Film Festival, Teddy Barlow, Old Cowtown Museum, and local artist Chris Gulick shared examples of innovative programing that created buzz and had a positive effect on attendance and community word-of-mouth.

The City is looking forward to continuing the conversation during future lectures. Atists, arts and culture organizations and the public are invited to attend. It's in everyone's best interest to have a strong arts sector in Wichita. Broad community input and involvement is needed to make sure that happens. ...  (calendar of upcoming lectures)

Burlesque A Hit!
Two sold-out crowds enjoyed "An Evening of Burlesque" March 11-12 at Cowtown. Local performance troupe Dr. Dillinger's Freaks and Floozies hosted the event that included
Show headliner "Ilsa the Wolf"
regional
and local burlesque dancers, an all-girl ukulele band, comedy and sideshow acts and Vaudeville performances.

Audience members were left wanting more -- and people are already asking, "When is the next burlesque show?"

For now "An Evening of Burlesque" was a one-time special engagement. But that doesn't mean audience demand can't bring it back. With so much going on at Cowtown these days, anything is possible!
