Two New Sculpture Locations

Two Walkabout Sculpture pieces have switched places.  Look for Beth Vannatta's poignant sculpture, "Collateral Damage," on the NE corner of Mead and Douglas, and look for Fred Braht's colorful geometric sculpture, "Hot Flame," on the SE corner of Mead and 2nd Street.  All others remain in the positions detailed in the Walkabout Sculpture brochure.
Below are short companion poems by Judy Goodpasture.  We hope you will enjoy theses sculptures at their new sites.

On "Collateral Damage" by Beth Vannatta

It's jargon to excuse the needless death of children, deflect our hearts from the natural repulsion that should accompany the sight or thought of a child killed accidentally in war.

It's easier to categorize one parent's grief
in bureaucratic terms that ignore the
shocking bloody instantaneous mess
of an innocent girl or boy's death.

It's more polite to use the army's term
than stop to face the guilt of war
and all its weighty costs.

On "Hot Flame" by Fred Braht
Mondrian and Calder would love it.I.M. Pei would approve,
and Gaudy might admire its peep-Tom possibilities.

Its protractor projection demands respect;
its Matisse cut-outs tease with the prospect of secret framed views ahead;and its solid composure affirms stability.

But modest in scale,
yet burning bold red,
and intriguing from every side, this piece asks..."What do you think of me?"
