Election over, forge ahead
Issue: #24November 18, 2010
Greetings!

It's been a wild ride in D10. Now, we almost-finally, seemingly-officially have a new Supervisor. Huge props to all the candidates for stepping up to run, putting themselves out there, and focusing attention on our happening but often-overlooked District. It was exciting and immensely valuable to meet candidates and hear voices from all over this District. Inspired by this, I would like to see PHDC be a unifying force in D10, organizing events and activities that continue to bring us all together.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OP: Thanksgiving at Velma's
pumpkinSpend part of Thanksgiving giving back
Remember when Spero's (S. Asimakopoulos, the Greek restaurant where Sunflower is now) organized an annual community Thanksgiving at St. Teresa's ? It was way over a decade ago, and my family used to help cook and serve the free meal donated by local businesses. I was sorry to see it end, but thrilled to find out that Velma's Blues & Jazz Club is doing another version just south of here:

Velma's Turkey Your Way
Bayview's Second Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner
Thursday, Nov. 25, noon to 5PM
2246 Jerrold Ave

The turkeys will be provided by Bayview businesses: The Monte Carlo (smoked), Sam Jordan's (fried), Racing For Life (bar-B-Q), Old Skool Cafe, Auntie April's and Simply Fabulous salon (baked). The doors will open at noon and dinner will be served until 5:00.

Donations are needed of trimmings: potato salad, green beans, mac and cheese, green salad, cranberry sauce, rolls, desserts, all things that go with a Thanksgiving dinner.  Volunteers are needed to serve in one hour shifts. To donate or volunteer, please call 415-824-7646.

The time is now to get some action out of Congress
With just a few weeks left of a Democratic House majority under Speaker Nancy Pelosi, what is most important to you? Here are links to take action while there is still a chance things could go our way:

· Repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell by
bringing the National Defense Authorization Act to a vote before the next session of Congress
· End the Bush tax cuts for the top 2%
· Protect family and organic farms with two vital amendments to the Food Modernization Act
· Fight deep-pocketed, secret campaign donors by urging Pelosi, Boxer and Feinstein to pass the DISCLOSE Act and the Fair Elections Now Act
