Greetings!
APRIL MEETING FOLLOWUP: May 19th state budget propositions, Bayview land use
Sophie Maxwell
Supervisor Sophie Maxwell spoke about possible effects of the propositions on cities. Click on any speaker's photo to hear what they said.

Rick Wathen and Paul Hogarth
Rick Wathen of the California Teachers Association spoke FOR the six propositions, while Paul Hogarth of Beyond Chron spoke AGAINST them. Ultimately, the Club endorsed a "NO" vote on Propositions 1A, 1C, 1D, and 1E. The Club has no official position on Propositions 1B and 1F, having failed to muster the 60% required for an endorsement either for or against. For more information on the Special Election, please see the Secretary of State's Voter Guide and the CA League of Women Voters' recommendations - which are virtually the same as those of PHDC.

Chris Jackson
Chris Jackson of the SF Labor Council asked for a letter of support for SB 792, regarding tidelands; the issue was too complicated to have a vote that night. Please read about the bill here, and listen to Chris by clicking on the photo.

Eight PHDC members participated in an early Earth Day cleanup with Save the Bay, April 11th at Mission Creek. We weeded and picked up trash with kids from Lowell, houseboat dwellers, and Save the Bay staff.

The Mission Creek Conservancy and others are sponsoring additional volunteer days to continue bank weeding: the next two Saturdays, April 18th and April 25th, 10AM, with lunch at 1PM. Check our web site calendar for details.

Please join PHDC along with co-sponsors District 3 Democratic Club, Bernal Heights Democratic Club, City Democratic Club, and Democracy Action for an informative evening with Senator Mark Leno at Schroeder's German Restaurant. He will discuss SB 810, the California Universal Health Care Act, under which every Californian would have medical, dental, vision, hospitalization and prescription drug benefits. The bill also preserves a patient's right to choose his or her own doctors and hospitals.

Check our calendar for more details.
MAY 5th MEETING: Shipyard alternatives, solar for your roof, and more

Various speakers will be making their respective cases, representing Arc Ecology, GRID Alternatives, and other organizations that impact our life here in District 10. More info will be posted on our calendar, as details are finalized.

Yours in democracy,

Joni Eisen, President
