Influencing the Issues
Our December 2nd meeting was lively with lots of free-flowing conversation. And champagne! We deserved it. We talked about the online office of the President-elect and how to contact the transition team (on the site, click on "Tell us your story" on the right). A Greenpeace rep told us their plan of action with the Obama administration; PHDC members then went to Crissy Field to participate in Greenpeace's Global Day of Climate Action a few days later. At the urging of your Club president, to whom the issue of public financing of campaigns is the sine qua non of government reform, the Club decided to send a letter in January to Speaker Pelosi to urge action on the Fair Elections Now Act in Congress.

LOCAL ISSUES: 2010 SUPERVISOR RACE; CRIME

 Our Supervisor, Sophie Maxwell, will be termed out in less than 2 years. Are you interested in finding great candidates and giving the public ample opportunity to meet them? Please join me and Steve Moss, editor & publisher of The Potrero View, at Farley's TOMORROW (Monday, Dec. 8th) at 11AM to discuss how we might collaborate on this mission.
Crime in the Neighborhood has been on the minds of several people who expressed interest in addressing this knotty problem. An ad hoc committee, meeting very soon, was formed to research what groups in nearby neighborhoods are doing and whether we want to join their efforts. If you would like to participate, please contact chair Ted Miller. The committee will present its findings at the next PHDC meeting: Tuesday, January 6, 2009.
