MCMS receives hundreds of inquiries each month from individuals seeking a physician.
In order to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information, we need to keep our files current.  

 

If you have agreed to receive referrals, please take a moment to review your profile within the Physician Search function on the MCMS Web site. Pay particular attention to your address, phone, e-mail and especially your Web site URL (this links over to your practice's Web site) so patients can find you!

Generics Dominate Scripts in 2010

As brand-name drugmakers wring their hands over upcoming patent relinquishments, new data from IMS Health show that the country has been steadily turning to generic drugs. In 2010, generics captured 78% of the total market share for prescriptions, up from 63% in 2006, according to Michael Kleinrock, director of research development for IMS Health, and colleagues. Healthcare Workers Responsible for Patients' Health Literacy 

Responsibility for recognizing and addressing the problem of limited health literacy lies with all healthcare professionals, according to a Committee Opinion of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) published in the May issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Two related Committee Opinions in the same issue discuss the impact of communications skills and strategies and cultural sensitivity issues on patient-physician communication. Read more...

State Accepting Medical Marijuana Recommendations  

Arizona's medical marijuana law took effect April 14, 2011, and the Arizona Department of Health Services began receiving applications for patient and caregiver registry medical marijuana identification cards. According to ADHS Director Will Humble, the system went online at 8 am and the first medical marijuana patient card was issued at 8:30 am to a 60-year-old man from Scottsdale who suffers from Crohn's disease.

Hospitals' New Specialist: Social Media Manager

Not E-Claim Compliant? Expect No Pay in 2012!

On Jan. 1, 2012, if physicians' practice management systems are not up to new standards, they will risk not getting electronic payments from private insurers and Medicare. Despite that possibility, many physicians have not even begun to see if they are compliant with what are known as HIPAA Version 5010 standards.  

 

According to a survey released in March by the Medical Group Management Assn., 56% of practices have not scheduled any internal testing for 5010, and 61% have not scheduled any testing with their major health plans. The survey covered 349 practices with 13,290 doctors. Read more...

Feds Launch Plan to Fight Prescription Drug Epidemic

White House officials from the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), along with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), today announced the release of the first national action plan to fight a "prescription drug abuse epidemic."  

 

The collaborative "Obama Administration action plan" urges prescriber education on opioid risks and benefits, recommends monitoring programs for all states, and suggests easier ways to dispose of unwanted or unused drugs in the home. The joint-agency group is also calling for new laws to turn these recommendations into requirements. Read more...

We filed our official rules for regulating medical marijuana with the Secretary of State last week. The official rules include a few clarifications that weren't in the set of unofficial rules that we posted on March 28. The clarifications are reflected in the Arizona Medical Marijuana Rules, Medical Marijuana Act AZ Statutes and the Frequently Asked Questions. Read more...
