| MCMS partners with Dependable Medical Directory! |
|
Huge benefits and savings to all MCMS members.
The Maricopa County Medical Society is pleased to announce its partnership with Dependable Medical Directory (DMD) beginning April 1, 2010. DMD is a physician-owned answering service company serving Arizona since 1980. With many member physicians often finding it difficult to maintain a front office staff, this additional perk is being welcomed with much anticipation. Dan Mitten, Associate Executive Director of the Medical Society states, "We are very excited about this new partnership. DMD has an excellent reputation, longevity in the medical community and a dedication to serving the physicians of Arizona. These are our primary goals as well, so this partnership is a natural fit between the two organizations. We are confident that our physician members will benefit greatly from DMD's services."

Many Questions & Few Answers
Susan M. Whitely, MD
My friends among you know that another piece of man-eating carpet recently attacked me, unfortunately resulting in a distal femur fracture. Orthopedic hardware now probably makes up more than half of my body. I'm musing to myself about the value of recycled titanium after I die. I tell the readers my plight not to elicit sympathy but to explain to you why I was able to stay at home all day watching every minute of the Health Care Summit and subsequent coverage. At this time it is unknown if a comprehensive bill will go through a reconciliation process requiring a simple majority, or if smaller incremental measures will be put forth which both parties can agree upon.

Arizona will be the latest state to take to court a complaint over the health-care reform act
The Arizona Legislature split along partisan lines Wednesday to pass a bill that will arm Gov. Jan Brewer with the arguments she needs to sue the federal government over the health-care reform act.
It's unclear when the Republican governor will go to court, whether she'll sign on to an ongoing lawsuit or go it alone.
But Wednesday's action in a special session ensures Arizona will be the latest state to take to court a complaint over the health-care reform act that President Barack Obama signed into law last week. So far, 13 states have signed on to a lawsuit that Florida filed; Virginia has lodged its own suit.

New tower to open mid-2011
St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center and Phoenix Children's Hospital plan to combine pediatric services under a deal that would bring complex pediatric medical care to the new Phoenix Children's Hospital tower.
St. Joseph's would move most of its pediatric services to Phoenix Children's when the hospital's new 11-story hospital tower, now under construction, opens by mid-2011.
The hospitals are billing the deal as a strategic alliance that will create a destination spot for children in Arizona and beyond who battle life-threatening illnesses.
