Shambala!
The fabulous and new Shambala is due in shops starting in September. The word "Shambala" refers to an ancient mythical Buddhist kingdom that was thought to be both a physical and spiritual kingdom or "Pure Land", a place of peace and tranquility. We felt this quite fitting for our newest addition to the Crystal Palace line. The blending of vibrant colors and textures are majestic and beautiful. The spiritual tranquility comes from the knitting or crocheting itself; working with this yarn is calming and easy.
Shambala is a two-ply yarn. One ply is a textured woolen-spun with slow stripes made from a combination of wool and silk. The second ply is made of brushed micro-acrylic, printed in colors to complement the woolen stripes. The result is a scrumptious, affordable yarn with eye-appeal, hand-appeal and great loft. It knits up to a tasty 3-stitches-per-inch.
This is truly a fall/winter yarn, great for accessories and sweaters alike. Check out the free Shambala patterns for project ideas. |
CPY on Pinterest
In my opinion, this may be the most fun and addicting social medium yet. Pinterest is a way to collect photos from the internet and "pin" them up on a virtual board. Pinterest automatically attaches a link to the picture which goes back to its original Web site. This is a super fast and interesting way to mark Web pages you like and to get your ideas across to followers, because, after all, a picture is worth 1,000 words.
We invite all of our fans to follow Crystal Palace Yarns on Pinterest. Just sign up or log in!

New FREE Patterns: Knit
We have four new knit patterns up in our free patterns library. The Mochi Plus Hat with TuTu Ruffle by Barbara Breiter is a fun child's hat that can be adjusted in size to fit a teen or adult as well. Shown in coordinating "Violets" colorways of Mochi Plus and TuTu, this hat uses just one ball/hank each and looks darling!
Second is the Cotton Twirl Cowl with TuTu Ruffle. The simple seed stitch design of Cotton Twirl makes a comfortable, springy fabric, while the center TuTu accent adds flair. Omit the TuTu for a more classic look, or add more bands for extra fun. Use TuTu Lamé instead of TuTu for extra pizazz! The cowl takes two balls of Cotton Twirl and one of TuTu. It is a great non-wool accessory.
The third project is an easy, drapy, gorgeous cowl which uses just one ball of Sausalito. The Sausalito Drop Stitch Cowl features garter stitch with bands of dropped yo's. It is knit back and forth and then seamed up at the side edges. This piece is fashionable, lacy, quick and affordable!
The latest addition to the free knitted pattern collection are the Majestic Mitts, designed by Joanne Cole in Chunky Mochi. They feature a wide-rib body with ruffled cuff and top. They are easy to make and take two balls.

Indie Knitting News: Knitting in Circles by Nicky Epstein
The fabulous and prolific Nicky Epstein is at it again, offering a new book of gorgeous, unique and inspirational designs. Knitting in Circles, just out this week from Random House/Potter Craft, is a must-have in every knitter's library! The book features 20 garment and accessory patterns, all constructed from variations of that one beautiful, balanced shape: the circle. From bags, to shawls, to sweaters, to dresses, there seems to be no limit to what can be done when knitting in circles.
Crystal Palace is so fortunate to be a part of this book. The stunning Entrelac Capelet was designed in Mochi Plus. The natural, slow color changes of Mochi Plus are a perfect match to entrelac, having the work of color-changing already done. I saw this piece in person, and it is incredible!
The projects are superb and the book design is quite elegant. Contact the publisher or your local or online shop to purchase.

Indie Crochet News: Cuddles, Panda Silk and Mini Mochi
There are many new crochet designs featured in our Indie Patterns section, including designs done in Cuddles, Panda Silk and Mini Mochi.
The Cuddly Crocheted Baby Blanket by Diane L. Augustin is soft and, well, cuddly. It takes six balls to make and works up quickly. It is just the right size for a stroller or small crib. Cuddles' bulky gauge makes it fast to crochet and comfy to use.
We have two new Panda Silk crocheted indie patterns featured. The Glasgow Gloves by Heather von Marko (HVM Designs) are cool and hip. Tough it out in the streets of Glasgow with these sassy mitts, and you are bound to get some respect. (I think this might be my next crochet project!) The pattern only takes one ball, making it a very affordable project. Or, dazzle your outfit with the Jeweled Lace Necklace by Andrea Bush. Crocheted jewelry is all the rage, and this one is a knockout! This necklace is perfect for elegant occasions in any season.
Another fab pattern from HVM Designs is the Rainbow Granny Scarf in Mini Mochi. The automatic, slow striping nature of the colors keeps the crocheter focused on the square design while watching the amazing color effects magically unfold. This scarf design is an excellent take on the granny square motif; it is both exciting to work and eye-catching to wear.
Also in Mini Mochi is the spectacular Land & Sea Blanket by Kim Werker. The way the designer uses the two color ways of Mini Mochi - soft "Seafoam" and bolder "Lake Trail" - are just delicious! This pattern features a simple fan-stitch fabric with a unique Fibonacci stripe pattern. This project would be appropriate for both beginners and seasoned crocheters alike. The pattern can be a baby blanket or sofa throw, or size can be adjusted for a larger piece.
