Enter a drawing to win two balls of our NEW Sausalito!
Crystal Palace Sausalito, our new, 2-ply, fingering, slow-striping yarn made from soft, machine-washable merino and nylon, is due to arrive mid-February in our warehouse for shipping to shops. We have a precious few early sample Sausalito balls that we want to give to five lucky knitters/crocheters. To enter the drawing: 1. Go to the Crystal Palace Yarns Facebook page.
2. Visit our Sausalito page on our website.
3. Pick a 1st & 2nd color choice. (We cannot guarantee color choices, but we will try to award winners as close to their choices as possible.)
4. Post a comment under the "Sausalito Drawing" post: "Yes, Put me in the Pool" - tell us A. what you think you would use the two balls of Sausalito for and B. your two color choices.
We will give each entry a number for the drawing. We will do a random number-generated drawing to pick the five winners. The drawing will take place on Saturday, February 5, 2011. We will post the winners on Facebook, and you will email us your address if you are one of them. (Do NOT post your address in public!)
Good Luck!

New FREE Patterns!
As promised, we have more new patterns up on our website for the new year, featuring Mochi Plus, Chunky Mochi and Merino 5. We start off with the Mochi Plus Open Stitch Scarf, a basic lace scarf knit lengthwise on circular needles, which means less time spent flipping the piece back and forth. Two balls of Mochi Plus go a long way with this dramatic accessory designed by Barbara Breiter. The next pattern is the beautiful crocheted Rainbow Dreams Baby Afghan, designed by Gail Tanquary. It measures 30" x 30" and uses five balls of Mochi Plus and four balls of Plus Solid. The Mochi family is proving to be a hit among crocheters, and this is an eye-catching design that can be appreciated for years to come. Also by Gail Tanquary is the Eyelet Ribbed Hat & Fingerless Gloves pattern, knitted out of tried-and-true, 100% machine-washable merino, Merino 5. This is a generous two-in-one design, sized for teens and adults. I whipped up the gloves for myself, and they were very fun and quick to knit. The eyelet rib makes this interesting to work up and to wear. Three balls of Merino 5 will yield one hat and one pair of fingerless gloves.
Last but not least is the Buttoned Cabled Cowl, made out of Chunky Mochi. Luxuriously soft cables among thick ribbing are the focus. I have been wearing my cowl for a couple of weeks now, and not only have I been so cozy and warm without fear of getting scarf ends caught in doors or dragging them on the ground, but I have also been getting A LOT of compliments. Cowls are great alternatives to scarves because they offer the same ease of construction as scarves but are shorter and therefore take less time to finish. And they are fashionable. And economical! This design only uses three balls of Chunky Mochi. |
Indie News:
Chunky Mochi Hats & more
Cute, cute, cute. That is the best description I have for Susan B. Anderson's one-ball Chunky Mochi Baby Hat. This super-soft cap makes a great gift for that special baby in your life. The designer's daughter donated her hat to a local charity, which is an excellent idea as well. You can make one in a single evening! The pattern is available for purchase on the Shop Susan B. Anderson website.
Susan B. Anderson is not new to Crystal Palace Yarns. Other designs using CPY include the Baby Slouch Hat out of Mini Mochi and the Pea Pod, Watermelon, Butterfly, Easter Egg and Oh, Bunny! Washcloths out of Cotton Chenille, In fact, she seems to have a Cotton Chenille washcloth pattern for every occasion. The Sweetheart Washcloth, is a fun project to knit up for Valentine's Day, and the Shamrock Washcloth is great for St. Patrick's Day.
Chunky Mochi hats make great winter projects. They are quick, inexpensive and warm. The Chunky Mochi Chevron Hat by Olga Tonjes, is a wonderful, two-ball adult hat. The chevron and eyelet design is flattering and relatively easy to work up. The stripes of Chunky Mochi help to emphasize the shape of the chevron. The pattern is published for free on the Trucks on the Highway blog. When she is not designing, Olga is running the T-Spot Shop, a yarn, tea and chocolate shop in Manzanita, Oregon. |
