Diversity Education & Training
Research on multicultural education has demonstrated the effectiveness of programs explicitly addressing identity development and perception among youth and programs that engage youth in experiential workshops and open dialogue have shown positive changes in students' perceptions of others, academic achievement and self-esteem. (Wilcox, 1998;Trusty, 1996; Gordon, 2005)
"For diverse students to learn from each other and become culturally competent citizens and leaders of a diverse democracy, institutions of higher education have to go beyond simply increasing enrollment of students of different racial and ethnic backgrounds. These institutions must also attend to both the quality of campus racial climate and actual interactions among diverse students." (Gurin, Nagda, Lopez, 2003)

Educating & Empowering
Last year, 7,000 adults and youth directly experienced the work of the American Conference on Diversity - 25,000 more through Action Plans impacting schools and communities.
We are proud of what we do - the teachers we work with; the schools we partner with; the students who learn what it means to be a leader in diverse groups; the health professionals who explore cultural differences as they work to provide the best in patient care; and the business leaders who continue to invite us back into their workplaces to explore and enhance the role of diversity in their employee working groups and business goals.
Here are some of their reactions.
In Their Own Words . . .
"I am so glad I got the chance to open up and see the actual world around me. I will forever remember every new lesson I have learned here." Cassie Petty, 2011 Lead for Diversity Delegate
"I honestly never stopped to make a connection between bias and bullying. This workshop raised my awareness 100%." NJ Educator, December, 2011 Educator's Institute Workshop
"This session was a comfortable class setting that made you think about your own actions and how others perceive them." Christine Laurence, Director's Assistant, CRODA
"This leadership training session reminded me of "my filters" coming from a place of "advantage. Also, it goes beyond just our business world." Matt Voelker Territorial Vice President, Prudential
"This program was extremely effective in raising awareness and understanding of the impact culture and diversity have on the delivery of healthcare." Daisy Chan, Director, Communications, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ

American Conference on Diversity programs make an impact!
"I cannot begin to thank you for allowing our school to participate in the Dr. MLK Breakfast. The event gives students the opportunity to meet youth from neighboring schools in a non-competitive and supportive environment, as well as, give them the opportunity to articulate their individual perspectives on diversity. I particularly enjoyed this year's keynote speaker, Rev. Dr. James Coaxum. His speech was encouraging, uplifting and really inspired me to think about my role in finishing the job of Dr. King. Thanks again for everything!"
Tanya Cain, Atlantic City High School Guidance Counselor
