BACK TO SCHOOL CELEBRATION
It is hard to believe that September is here and kids are heading back to school. To help kick off the school year, the Children's Committee has put together a list of supplies for the nursery and preschool. Your donation will assist in enhancing the experience that young ones have when they step into our church nursery or preschool. It is our sincere joy to share God's love with these little ones, and your contributions will assist with these ministries.
Two online wish lists have been created at amazon.com (Wish list can be accessed by using children@steellake.org) and target.com (under baby registry - First Name: Steel Lake, Last Name: Preschool).
Other items that we continually need throughout the school year are:
- Watercolor paint set - 8 colors
- Glue sticks
- Crackers for snack time
- Juice powder mix
- Dixie cups
- Napkins
- Hand sanitizer
- Clorox wipes
- Nametags
- Construction paper
- Small giveaway toys
- Stickers
- Foam letter and shapes with adhesive backs
- Washable markers
- Crayons
Please feel free to drop items or monetary donations anytime at the church office, or bring them to worship for the Back to School Celebration on Sunday, September 18. Thank you in advance for your generous support.

BACK TO SCHOOL
Steel Lake Christian Preschool is excited to be starting a new school year. This September marks our 15th year in education, and we are thankful for all the young children that continue to fill our classrooms. We welcome back our preschool teachers Patsy Kumasawa and Alicia Eskew, who are teamed with our teacher aides Melanie Arntsen and Melissa Jennings. There is a lot of joy as this staff goes about teaching, guiding, and loving the young students in their classes, and I am thrilled to be joining this great team of educators. Please drop by and see the learning, exploring and discovering that takes place each and every day at the Preschool.
FALL ACTIVITIES
All kids preschool through fifth grade are invited to participate in the following events. Mark your calendars!
Every Sunday - Children's Lesson
After the Children's Message during the service, head to the Pacific Room for a Bible lesson, activity, and snack. Enjoy this weekly kid-friendly worship time.
Starting Sunday, October 2 - Sunday School
Come join us as we kick off the return of Sunday School from 9am-9:45am. Each Sunday before worship, participate in a Bible story, craft project and music.
Friday, October 7 - Parent's Night Out
The first Friday of each month from 6pm-9pm, kids are invited to SFC for an evening of food, games, a movie and fun. Come one month, come every month.

Deacon's Corner
There are many members of Steel Lake Church that should be given special recognition for deeds well done and hearts pouring out with generosity and love but I want to talk about someone who is especially happy right now and volunteering above and beyond the call. Can it be because she is recently retired from a long career with Northwest Airlines and enjoying that "foot loose and fancy free" feeling? Of course, I'm talking about Sandy Florence, Elder and Co-chair of Building and Grounds. Next time you see Sandy, congratulate her on her early retire ment and thank her for all the many things she does at and for Steel Lake. Did you know she led the team that recently painted the last preschool classroom and cupboards? When we need a work party to clean up the church grounds, Sandy is planning, organizing and raking with the other volunteers. She keeps the pantry in the kitchen organized and clean. The Logos closet was recently cleaned and organized by Sandy. If you dropped off donations for the Resurrection Sale in July, you probably saw Sandy sorting and pricing along with the many other volunteers. Sandy also serves as coordinator for the fundraisers, weddings, birthdays and other events we have in SFC.
Sandy, we love you and can't thank you enough for all you do here at Steel Lake. Enjoy your retirement and the extra time you will be able to spend with your family. We will certainly reap the harvest of the extra time you spend at Steel Lake.

COMMUNITY SUPPER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Every Monday night, here in Steel Lake Church's Fellowship Hall, anywhere from 30-80 people are served a hot dinner - for free! There are many dedicated volunteers that provide this vital service to the community each week. Is this a ministry that you would like to become involved in? Currently, there is a need for a dishwasher on the 3rd Monday evening of each month. This is a time commitment of approximately 2 hours a month. If you are interested, please call Hope Elder, volunteer coordinator, at 253-941-7939. If you can't commit to volunteering on a regular basis, substitute servers and washers are occasionally needed. |
October 23 & 30
NEW MEMBERS CLASS
If you are interested in exploring the possibility of becoming a member of Steel Lake Presbyterian, please join us after worship in the Lakeside Room on October 23rd and 30th. |
COFFEE FELLOWSHIP
Please sign up on the bulletin board in the narthex if you are available to host coffee fellowship time on a Sunday after worship. For training and/or questions, please contact Cathy Igielski at 253-740-6681. |
