CONGREGATIONAL SURVEY
At the July 31st session meeting, the session discussed Amendment 10A and how we should move forward as a congregation.  In light of our discussions and particularly the input we received at the special session meeting on Sunday, July 24th, we have created a very brief nine-question survey that has been online since August 1st.

If you haven't yet completed the survey, please do so today as the last day we will be collecting input will be this coming Sunday, August 21st. The survey may be found through our website www.steellake.org, on the right-hand side of our home page.

To ensure that the results of the survey reflect the thoughts and opinions of our congregation, it will be necessary to enter your name and phone number on the survey, however, your anonymity will be preserved.  Your name and phone number will be removed from the survey results prior to its distribution to the session.  Your responses will remain anonymous.

People who have limited or no access to a computer will be accommodated.  Elders will be available in the office after worship on August 21st to assist people in completing the survey using the volunteer computer.

The next regularly scheduled session meeting will be held on Thursday, August 25th at which time the session will review the results.

Thank-you in advance for your participation in this survey.  We greatly appreciate and value your input.

REACH OUT BREAKFAST FUNDRAISER

Mark your calendars for a Breakfast Fundraiser for Reach Out, at Steel Lake Presbyterian Church on Thursday, October 13.

Sunday, November 27

SAM'S ALERT: November

November's event is "Inspecting Carol" a comedy.  Here is a synopsis... Almost broke, the pathetic Soapbox Theatre Company is having a dickens of a time with their annual winter production of A Christmas Carol. Tiny Tim is a bit old and fat, Death keeps getting his chains tangled in the scenery, and there's an inspector from the National Endowment for the Arts expected any minute. When an inept new actor arrives, the stage is set for a major case of mistaken identity - with horrifying and hilarious results: the most hilarious and disastrous production of "A Christmas Carol" ever.

The date for the event is November 27, 2011.  That is a Sunday and they have a special price of $7.00 for the 2pm show.  This is a considerable savings. It is important that you sign up immediately if you plan to go.  You do this by going to http://www.burienlittletheatre.org/. Then go to Inspecting Carol and click Buy Tickets.  This will open the dates and you will see November 27.  Click the date and the price of $7.00 will come up. (http://click4tix.com/events.php is an alternate way to go in and sign up).

Everyone will reserve their tickets and pay on line.  If you do not wish to pay online then call the theatre and arrange an alternate means to pay (Burien Little Theatre at (206) 242-5180). Dinner will follow the play. Questions should be directed to Joan Allan 206-870-1194 or joankallan@comcast.net

DEACON'S CORNER

We have a young scholar in our midst who promises to be a real super-star someday. The young man I am so impressed with is Christian Krupp. He is modest and would not ordinarily "blow his own horn", but his academic abilities in Mathematics won him a placement in the Math Camp that the University of Washington sponsors every summer for outstanding High School Juniors throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Christian was selected as one of only 90 students to participate in a month- long intensive learning environment so that he could get an advanced feel for what college life is all about.   He lived in a dorm with a roommate (a new friend) and did lots of homework and special projects. He was also keeping current for high school classes that he was enrolled in for the summer. There were daily seminars and classes that he participated in on campus. "Burning the midnight oil" became a part of his life.

Christian was given the opportunity to take some special field trips. He visited the Nintendo campus, the Museum of Flight and some other pretty cool places. He attended a Mariners game and his dorm room was "the hangout room" because that's where all the snacks and goodies were. He learned a lot of new math jokes, too.

Christian's dedication to special assignments here at our church is something that I am very grateful for. He has been one of my slide specialists that have so faithfully presented our Worship slides on Sunday mornings. His quiet, steady manner and attention to detail is something that I treasure. Over past summers, he was one of the young men who kept the VBS participants wanting more and more as he participated in their daily skits and helped to conduct the recreation events for the kids. He also filled other roles as VBS had a need. As Christian moves toward his college career and adult life he will be an asset wherever he goes, whatever he undertakes. We love you Christian and we are grateful that you are a warrior in Christ's army.
