Merry Christmas...er, Christ Is Risen!...uh, I mean happy Pentecost

Sunday, May 22, is Music Sunday. This is the music ministries' annual event where we "pull out all the stops" to celebrate the end of our choirs' music season before the summer break. This year's music Sunday will feature the Chancel and Chamber choirs, Jubilee Ringers, Psalters, Peggy on the organ, lots of congregational singing, and a brass ensemble as well. It will be quite a musical morning.

Music Sunday will also take us on a whirlwind trip of the Christian liturgical year. Our church calendar that we celebrate is anchored by Christmas and Easter but also includes the seasons of Advent and Lent, and special days like Epiphany, Transfiguration Sunday, Palm Sunday, Pentecost, and Christ the King Sunday. Elements of the church calendar we observe can be traced back to the early church, and even the Jews of the Old Testament had special annually reoccurring festivals. Just as God created a rhythm to our week with six days of work and a seventh day of rest, so believers throughout the centuries have found benefit to having a particular religious rhythm to the year.

However, a year spans a long time, and perhaps it is sometimes difficult to feel that rhythm consistently. So this year for music Sunday, we want to give you the opportunity to experience the entire church calendar in a single service. The service will begin in Advent, eagerly waiting for the arrival of our promised Messiah, and it will conclude at Christ the King or Reign of Christ Sunday, celebrating Christ's eternal presence at God's right hand. Come enjoy this special experience and be prepared to sing Christmas carols, Easter anthems, and some of your other favorite hymns as we travel through the year together.

Steel Lake Christian Preschool
Springbrook Trout Farm
Springbrook Trout Farm

At Steel Lake Christian Preschool, May is our last month of the school year.  There are a lot of activities going on this month so it will be over before we know it.  We try to make every minute count at the preschool and often our minutes seem to go by quicker than anywhere else.

Though the spring has been cold and rainy this year, we at the preschool, parents and teachers alike, are hopeful and prayerful for dry weather on May 12. That is the day the preschool will venture out to Springbrook Trout Farm to go fishing.  This will most likely be an exciting event as many of our preschoolers have never fished before - or even knew they wanted to.  In the past when we have gone fishing, we discovered that even some of our preschool parents had never fished before.  The best part about going to the Trout Farm is not only that everyone catches a fish, but also the fishing stories that are told afterwards.  We have heard of fishing lines getting tangled, the challenge of mothers baiting fish hooks who have never done it before, and parents (and teachers alike) chasing fish down the pathway as they try to escape.

 Graduation Diploma

On Thursday May 26, at 10:30am, the preschool will celebrate our end of the year.  All of the preschool students will wear graduation crowns and receive a diploma signifying the completion of their year at preschool.  The preschoolers will sing songs and recite a memory verse for their proud parents and grandparents.  After the program we will have a joyous celebration in Starkey Friendship Center with cake, punch and balloons.  The congregation of Steel Lake is always welcome to join us in our celebration.

There are still openings in the preschool for this fall.  We appreciate you passing on the word to your friends and family and if they are interested please contact the preschool.
