Hughes Water Gardens is a wonderful mecca for any photographer whether they are an amateur or a professional.
Digital photography offers an interesting way to relate to the world and a way to creatively enjoy our gardens. Students will learn how to address technical challenges and will discuss the components necessary to create a healthy habitat for wildlife and visually rich environment in the yard.
This class is designed for intermediate photographers who want to solidify their understanding of photographic techniques and take their craft to the next level.
Digital SLR preferred.

Pruning Japanese Maples with Holly Beare Sunday August 1st at 1pm
Japanese maples are almost a prerequisite if you have a pond, or for that matter, any landscape. They are a tree that says peace and tranquility.
Pruning a Japanese maple can be an art form and for the average gardener can be an intimidating procedure.
Holly Beare of Hughes Water Gardens will teach a class on Pruning Japanese Maples on Sunday August 1st at 1pm where she will demonstrate the proper pruning techniques to keep your maple healthy and beautiful. |
Stained Glass Class
FLEUR-DE-LIS STAINED GLASSWORKS Sunday August 1st at 11am

A trip to France in 1996 finally clinched a life-long fascination with stained glass, motivating her to learn the art form.
Robin Harrower, a stained glass artist for 15 years, will describe the process of designing and constructing stained glass windows and doors. Additional information will be given on the Tiffany and Frank Lloyd Wright styles of stained glass, the foil technique versus the use of lead came, and the various types of glass and how to use them. Hughes Water Gardens Waterlily Festival & Invitational Art Show July 24th - August 1st, 2010
Please join us at Hughes Water Gardens for our 8th Annual Waterlily Festival and Invitational Art Show. This event will take place in our beautiful water gardens on Stafford Rd. Artwork has been created for this show by over 50 regional artists, including a number of pieces inspired by the display gardens and setting of Hughes Water Gardens and will be available for purchase. This year we are adding a new twist to our festival during the evening events. You have heard of Farm to the Table, we will be featuring Farm to the Party with local vendors showcasing their fruit, veggies, CSA's (Community Supported Agriculture), local wine, chocolate and more. New for this year, Rose City Garden Railway Society has graciously set up a fabulous miniature garden train to help celebrate our Waterlily Festival and Art Show. Extended Gallery Dates - July 16 - August 08 In support of our artists, we have exten ded the dates for our Art Gallery. It will be open a week before and one week after the festival.

Victoria Lily Bloom Night
Thursday Evening, July 29th 6:30 - 9:00 pm
Experience tropical immersion during our evening viewing of the Victoria lily and other tropical night blooming waterlilies. Some of the Victoria waterlilies present at Hughes during this event should be blooming on this evening. This is the leading Victoria Waterlily display on the West Coast. Join us for guided tours of our diversified and wonderful waterlily collections. Guests will enjoy light appetizers, music and wine tasting. This event is open to the public.

Edible landscaping, especially when paired with organic gardening practices, enhances any yard, garden or landscape. Is that great, or what? Class
2:30 - 3:30 pm GARDEN DESIGN USING TREES Our own Casey Clapp teaches garden design using trees with a focus on shape, color, and size. He will also discuss how to best incorporate trees in water feature landscapes. Class
