Temptation
What is yours?
We all have temptation in our lives. It comes in many forms. Lust, food, drugs, sex, flirtation, control, passivity, anger, solitude, comfort and on and on. Do you recognize any of these?
Temptation is part of our human experience. I believe it is part of our learning on earth. The real work is all in how we handle the temptation. In other words, are you able to see it for what it is and recognize when it's out of control?
When the temptation is big enough, at its root, it holds our vulnerabilities and frailties. Shedding light on the temptation creates a chance to touch a much greater part of ourselves. The shadow side or piece that has been hidden from plain view. This vulnerable part may manifest as a strong temptation simply because it has not been dealt with in a healthy way before.
It can be helpful to think of our temptations as a reminder to look beneath the surface of the issue at hand. Again, here is the learning opportunity...ask yourself..."what about this situation temps me in a way that is not healthy or for my highest and best interest?"
In extreme cases of temptation, it can take new shape and become an addition or habit that gains momentum and gets out of control. It can be similar to an awful family secret that nobody wants to confront so everyone continues to deny it exists. Once the temptation gets out of control like this, it can be difficult to regain balance or homeostasis within your life. This is when extra support may be needed.
The scale of temptation ranges, allow your intuitive voice to help guide you toward healing, if needed.
