Welcome to SPEEDSTER!
|
OOPS! We goofed!
As many of you may realize the article entitled "What a Toy" in the previous email is a HOAX. Please disregard the email and accept our apology in sending SPEEDSTER out before properly edited.
We would also like to give a warm AACA Welcome to the new AACA Museum Executive Director, Mark Lizewskie.
"On behalf of our Club we are very excited to have AACA member Mark Lizewskie join the AACA family as our new Executive Director of the AACA Museum. We have worked well with Mark before and are looking forward to the future."
-Herb Oakes
Hershey, PA (September 7, 2012) Mark Lizewskie has been named the new Executive Director of The Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Museum in Hershey, PA. He was selected for this position by the AACA Museum Board Search Committee following an extensive search.
Practically born behind the wheel of an MGA when his mother was eight-months pregnant with him, Mark has been a car guy since day one. He has dedicated his entire professional career to all things automotive and has been an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Technician for over 25 years, holding positions of technician, shop foreman, and service manager in new car dealerships. Starting from the year 2000, he is the curator, restorer and historian for the JWR Automobile Museum located in Frackville, Pennsylvania. A veteran of the concours circuit, Mark has exhibited the collection's vehicles, and acted as judge at numerous venues across the country annually for the last 12 years. Mark is a founding member of the board of directors and car selection chairman for The Elegance at Hershey concours. He hopes to finally realize his life-long dream of racing with the Vintage Sports Car Club of America in the very near future
Mark currently resides in Zion Grove, Pennsylvania with his wife Lois and will begin as Executive Director at the AACA Museum in October.

AACA Election - Why Vote?
By Herb Oakes, AACA President
The current issue of Antique Automobile is the most important issue of the year. This issue introduces the membership to the nominees on the ballot for reelection or election to the AACA Board of Directors. A look at our memberships' participation in voting indicates that privilege is not taken as seriously as it should be. We have over 60,000 members that are eligible to vote; however, we only average about 10 to 12% that actually vote. Let me explain the importance of this responsibility of the membership.
Each year 7 Directors are eligible for reelection if they have not fulfilled their maximum allowable 12 years as a Director serving on the Board. To be placed on the ballot for reelection is not automatic. Each Director who is eligible for reelection has to be nominated for the ballot by the Nominating Committee. Each Director is evaluated by the Nominating Committee and is recommended for or against a place on the ballot for reelection. Once the Nominating Committee decides on the slate of Directors for reelection, it is presented to the full Board for approval. By using this process we are informing the membership that these are experienced members of the Board that we feel should continue on as Directors.
Additionally, each year the Nominating Committee also reviews potential new candidates to serve on the Board of Directors. These individuals are deemed by the committee to have made significant contributions to AACA and possess the skills necessary to govern the club. They are personally interviewed and screened by the Nominating Committee and once a slate is agreed upon, those names are presented to the full Board of Directors for approval as new nominees to the ballot.
For this year of 2012, we have 6 out of 7 incumbents running for reelection. One is retiring as he has met his term limit. The total ballot this year will be 6 incumbents and 4 new candidates. As the ballot states, each member must vote for 7 candidates. If this requirement of voting for 7 candidates is not met, the ballot will not count.
Each of us as members should carefully read the bio of each candidate before we make the important decision of voting for a candidate to serve on our Board of Directors. The election of our Board of Directors is a serious matter, and the future of AACA depends upon your participation in this process.
Bottom line is to VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!!

AACA Library |
Visiting the Library During Fall Meet
For those of you trekking out to Hershey this year for the Fall Meet, be sure to check out the Library booth over in Chocolate Field C3F. While folks will be on hand to answer questions you have about our services, we will also have a very special treat for automobilia collectors. More than two hundred books will be available for sale highlighting a diverse range of subjects; technical how-to guides, biographies, marque histories, foreign language pieces, toys and more. Collectors of pre-war literature will be happy to know that more than fifty books dating from before World War II will be among the offerings, the oldest of which will be Gardner D. Hiscox's Gas, Gasoline and Oil Engines (1897).
In addition to our booth on the show field, the Library will also have a nice selection of books for sale at our permanent location (501 W. Governor Rd.), and staff will be on hand to help you with your research needs. Our extensive collection might contain just what you're looking for, whether it's that elusive piece of information needed to restore your '32 Dodge or books detailing early motor tours throughout the world. The Library truly has something for everyone, so why not stop by and say hello? We'd love to have you.
Note on Photos: All images are from the 1910 book En Route by Roy Trevor. This massive 303 page travel account will be among the plethora of books the Library will have for sale.
Things to Keep in Mind When Visiting the Library:
-Personal Belongings: Leave all of your bags (including purses), briefcases, and boxes in your car. The reason for this restriction is simple; we don't any pieces of our collection accidentally falling into your bag and leaving the library.
-Bring ID: Please bring your driver's license, state-issued ID or something of value. We will hold on to your card while you hold on to our material. When you are finished with your research we will swap again.
-Food and Drink: For obvious reasons we do not allow food or drink in the library.
-Photocopy/Scanning Services: We offer black & white photocopies for $0.25/page, color copies for $0.50/page, and digital scans for $1.00/page. If we are exceptionally busy during your visit and unable to make copies immediately, we will mail your copies to you at a later date.
Ask Questions: Remember that this is your library! Be inquisitive. Keep in mind that there are many more pieces in our collection than you see from our reading room. Ask questions and enjoy the library!
Hours of Operation during Fall Meet:
Monday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Tuesday: 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Thursday: 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM
